Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking an ETL Developer, to be part of a team, to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Performance Analysis and Integrity (PA&I) for the Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). EDW is the source for all data and information about Veterans benefits data. It contains relevant data from each of VBA's transactional systems and arrays the data in a variety of business intelligence reporting for executive managers, business lines and claims processing teams in VBA's Regional Offices. EDW data is used for fraud detection and prevention, financial auditing, and reports to Congress. It is the source for all legal reporting requirements, to include the Government Performance Accounting Act, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006.

The ETL Developer must have experience with diverse IT projects both large and small within an Oracle environment. You will work within a diverse team and multiple firms supporting one mission. This position will be r esponsible for building end-to -ETL processes for a variety of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources using a range of tools including some ETL tools and open-source programming to ingest into an environment.

This position is onsite in Washington, D.C. at the VA facility during the normal operating hours of 0800 - 1700 EST Monday to Friday, excluding Federal holidays.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Experience supporting performance monitoring and tuning, and automation of production activities related to Data Warehouse, ETL and BI environment.
  • Analyze requirements from clients and work with development team to provide meaningful analysis on data to satisfy client s business needs.
  • Design, maintain and develop efficient SQL & PL/SQL languages to maintain ETL code.
  • Design, build and configure applications to meet business process and application requirements.
  • Works with analyst and developers to create ETL routines.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and support of data mart application.
  • Troubleshoot and tune existing data mart applications.
  • Assist in creating new or enhanced components of the data mart.
  • Implement best practices and methodologies and function as a technical expert in the design, development, modification and debugging of data models, databases, etc.
  • Support the development of new software or enhancements to existing software and integrate into new or modified systems and/or operational environments.
  • Assist reporting team in optimizing the ETL process to ensure that business requirements are met.
  • Documents all phases of work including gathering requirements, database diagrams, source to target mappings and other program technical specifications using current specified design standards for new or revised solutions.
  • Troubleshooting any issues that may arise.
  • Providing maintenance support.
  • Create and/or implement logical data models that represent the abstract structure of assigned information in the form of data cubes and or star schemas.
  • Utilize and maintain the current data lineage mapping tool to provide a 360-degree view of EDW data elements.
  • Use the EDW Metadata repository, Informatica Metadata Manager.
  • Ensure that the final Metadata repository is a structured, integrated, and homogeneous vision of the whole data warehousing system.
  • Provide metadata management support ensuring the function of the repository.
  • Cultivate positive, trusting, and cooperative working relationships with all persons supporting the work, including government employees and other vendors.
  • Work in self-contained, cross-functional teams capable of delivering complete products, including research, design, architecture, engineering, support, and documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with technology leads and developers across various teams to assess current state and implement process improvements.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related field)
  • 2+ years of relevant experience as an ETL Developer.
  • Proven performance monitoring and tuning, and automation of production activities related to Data Warehouse, ETL and BI environment.
  • Previous experience in Informatica PowerCenter 10 Standard/Advanced Edition.
  • Ability to deliver planned system upgrades, backups, patching, data load ETL jobs and/or restarts of critical applications/products.
  • Demonstrated data staging utilizing approved Extract, Transfer and Load (ETL) tools and Oracle data repositories.
  • Proficiency in warehousing architecture techniques.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to interact effectively with IT management, software development and test teams, and infrastructure teams, help desk support teams and with business partners.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Sound problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly process complex information and present it clearly and simply to a diverse audience.
