Cole Pollution Control Plant seeks an Engineer IV with a passion for the environment to manage environmental regulatory compliance program, support capital improvement program, and perform any other associated engineering or project management tasks assigned to ensure reliable regulatory compliance. The 67 MGD Noman M. Cole Pollution Control Plant, is a multi-year NACWA Platinum Award winning facility, which houses one of the most advanced wastewater treatment processes including primary, secondary, and tertiary liquid treatment processes, reclaimed water and sophisticated biosolids management program including incineration.

This position works in the DPWES Wastewater Treatment Division, located at 9399 Richmond Hwy. Lorton, Virginia.
This position is primarily responsible for the following tasks:
*A $5,000 signing bonus is available to new county employees hired in the Engineer IV position.
Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”) Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus five years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to write, communicate and understand process inspections and evaluations made in the field. Understanding of Engineering analysis and perform PC work. Must be able to walk, climb stairs and 28ft ladders. Ability to lift objects weighing 50 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview and may include exercise.
BONUS ELIGIBILITY:
Positions within this classification that are general merit may be eligible for a one-time hiring incentive bonus for new county employees only. This bonus program requires a signed payback agreement between the department and employee.

- Managing regulatory compliance program which includes regulation monitoring, planning and implementing compliance strategies, regulatory reporting and records keeping for various environmental permits including, but not limited to, water, biosolids, air and stormwater;
- Managing other facility programs, including, but not limited to, energy, sustainability, greenhouse gas emissions, etc;
- Managing capital improvement projects;
- Performing other related tasks as assigned.

- 3 years of experience ensuring compliance with and knowledge of the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act and associated federal and state regulations as related to wastewater facilities
- 8 or more years of experience in process, operation, maintenance, or project management relating to large scale (>35 MGD) advanced wastewater treatment plants
- Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
