Job Announcement
Under the direction of the Commander of the Community Engagement and Equity Bureau, the position acts as the Department’s Equity Director and is responsible for supporting the implementation of the One Fairfax policy by developing, implementing, and communicating processes, practices, and programs that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Department and in our operations.
Interfaces with and advises senior leadership including the Chief of Police. In addition, provides opportunities to develop the tools and skills for employees both sworn and professional to be successful in all interactions with outside stakeholders such as, but not limited to the Fairfax County community members for which the Department serves, Fairfax County Government employees, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Community Groups, etc. Works with Training Specialist III within the Department to identify best practice training programs to socialize best practices in interacting with all community members regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual identity, socioeconomic status, etc. Examines existing Department policies, procedures and practices and identifies areas with the Department that may need corrective action or improvement when dealing equitably with the residents of Fairfax County and to support the development of solutions to complex challenges, this position conducts research to inform program and policy decisions developing innovative ideas and gathering insights on new and/or emerging practices.
Develops performance measures for continuous improvement in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion with our stakeholders. Provides recommendations to continue to identify opportunities that increase the number of diverse applicant submissions that are representative of the community of Fairfax County. Acts to identify complex equity disparities and develop action plans to make positive impact to the Fairfax County communities’ interactions with Department personnel. Coordinates regularly with senior level management for the department. Facilitates and leads a team of Department equity leaders to implement the Department Equity Impact Plan. Attends public hearings, workshops, community, state, and national events. Provides collaborative problem solving, and a strategic approach to implementation of the Department’s equity plans and participates in a range of activities and networks regionally and nationally to contribute to and organizationally benefit from the growing field of practice to achieve racial and social equity in law enforcement. This position may require attendance at off-site meetings throughout Fairfax County. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check and credit check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
