Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a Communications Specialist with a strong background in development and implementing of communication and outreach efforts.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer with previous experience executing communication plans, campaigns, and products. They are a proactive problem solver who works well both independently and as part of a team. The candidate must be committed to providing superior customer service and have a positive and flexible attitude. They excel when presenting to clients and are comfortable receiving and implementing feedback on project tasks. They will develop, lead, track, and support program communications across a variety of platforms, and they will ensure themes, messages and desired outcomes are consistent across communication channels.

This is an associate level, full-time position located in Alexandria, VA . This position may also be remote and is a contingent hire.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Write for a wide range of content to include technical and scientific content to writing short and catchy promotional content.
  • Project manage specific project tasks throughout the course of the contract.
  • Develop and execute communication plans, campaigns, products and while incorporating events into a communications plan.
  • Excellent communication skills, is a strong multitasker and is comfortable with Microsoft Office, graphic design tools and collaboration tools, which currently include Zoom, Box, and Slack.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in strategic communications and written content development.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related program, such as mass communications, public relations or marketing
  • Consulting experience supporting large, complex Cabinet-level federal agencies, ideally with the science and technology space.
  • Able to obtain and Public Trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business, Journalism, Public Relations, or Communications
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills and the ability to quickly edit and proof copy.
  • Very strong ability to work collaboratively and to coordinate the team's communication efforts.
  • Strong time management, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done with high attention to detail.
  • Deep knowledge of innovative science and technology efforts within the federal government space.
