Responsibilities

Work Schedule:
Sunday - Saturday, - 10 or 12 hour shifts, days and nights

Including rotating holidays and weekends

Job Specific Details and Tasks: The duties for the HCW include but are not limited to the following:

• Operates and maintains specialized equipment to evaluate respiratory functions, and respiratory physiology.
• Performs spirometry, flow volume loops, lung volumes, diffusion capacities, and closing volumes.
• Draws and analyzes arterial blood gas samples. Maintains quality control of arterial blood gas machines and CO oximeters, including proficiency testing.
• Performs bronchoprovocation and exercising testing.
• Assists physician with fiberoptic bronchoscopy for diagnosis and therapy.
• Under orders of a physician, administers respiratory care such as oxygen and aerosol therapy, mechanical ventilator management, and preparation and administration of respiratory medications.
• Assists physician with intubation and extubation procedures. Performs endotracheal tube care. Maintains patent airway. Ensures bronchial hygiene through incentive spirometry and specialized breathing instructions.
• Prepares and instructs patients to use equipment or perform procedures.
• Checks patient and equipment, and changes, maintains, and calibrates equipment as necessary.
• Monitors data display on physiological equipment, and obtains records vital signs.
• Assesses and documents patient status.
• Adheres to infection control and universal precautions procedures, including disposition of contaminated materials.
• Performs pulmonary laboratory administrative, maintenance, and support functions.
• Precepts Respiratory Therapy students.
• Trains other Respiratory Therapists as necessary.
• Ensures a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.
• Provide patients with the utmost care and attention. All patients shall be assured of their privacy and personal dignity.
• Prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content and signature. Only MTF and Air Force-approved abbreviations shall be used for documentation of the patient health record. Abbreviations shall be used for documentation of the patient health record.

* Places holter (MCOT, Zios, Biotel) monitors on inpatient population

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* Education:Completion of an accredited Co-ARC-accredited Registered Therapy (RT) program.

* Experience: 1) Must have a minimum of two (2) years professional Respiratory Therapy experience. 2) Must have worked full time or part time (greater than 20hrs/week) as a professional Respiratory Therapist for at least 12 months in the last 24 months.

* Clinical Certification/Registration: 1) Minimum Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). 2) In addition, have and/or actively pursuing a Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) (to be obtained within 24 months of hire).

* Life Support Certification: Current AHA or ARC BLS and ACLS Certifications.

* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
