Coordinator for Residential Student EngagementGeorge Mason University's Housing and Residence Life (HRL) is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for the Coordinator for Residential Student Engagement position. HRL employs over 170 full-time graduate staff members and over 200 undergraduate student staff members. HRL oversees student housing areas comprised of roughly 6,000 beds within over forty (40) residential facilities, as well as housing the distributed campuses including the Science & Technology campus and the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation. HRL is committed to provide a safe, student centered environment that is inclusive of the global community; dedicated to creating a home that enriches the experiences of our students, staff, and faculty.About the Position:The Coordinator for Residential Student Engagement is part of the professional staff team of Housing and Residence Life and Student Involvement, within the Division of University Life. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Student Involvement for Residential Student Engagement within Student Involvement.The Coordinator for Residential Student Engagement manages multiple tasks while fulfilling the strategic goals as established by Student Involvement, Housing and Residence Life, and University Life. This is a live-on position within the Student Involvement and Housing and Residence Life teams. The Coordinator provides support, advisement, and learning opportunities to engage Mason students in campus life with a focus on residential students. The Coordinator assists with the overall development and implementation of medium- and small-scale events and activities for the residential areas of campus to enhance the growth and development of residential students by providing social, cultural, and educational opportunities to engage residential students with the campus and the community. The Coordinator will serve as the primary advisor for the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), including guiding the students to be strong self-advocates, providing leadership development, and providing support for engaging residential programs. The Coordinator also provides oversight for, and daily management of The Ridge, a student programming space within the residential community.Responsibilities:Supervision and Leadership:Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and provide ongoing professional development and support for Team Ridge student staff;Advise, support, communicate, and collaborate with RHA and NRHH officers;Co-plan the development, facilitation, and assessment of leadership training and leadership retreats for student leaders in Housing and Residence Life and Student Involvement;Co-manage, with the Assistant Director, a budget of approximately $180,000 for events, initiatives, and experiences that support the residential student experience; andAdvise RHA and NRHH officers in management of the organizational budget and fundraising initiatives.Community Engagement and Events:Supervise and manage daily operations of The Ridge student lounge and Residence Life staff resource center, including student staff supervision, supply inventory and purchasing, and event planning and execution;Advise and manage Team Ridge (student leader team) in the development and execution of events in/around The Ridge and residential spaces, in support of the residential student experience;Create, update, and manage a Ridge events calendar for a full semester, which will be distributed to staff and students prior to the start of each semester;Serve as primary advisor for the RHA and NRHH chapters for Housing and Residence Life by encouraging the student board in the areas of self/community advocacy, event planning and execution, and professional development;Lead in the development of the RHA, NRHH, and community council structure including creation of trainings and supporting council advisors;Lead and engage the RHA and NRHH in state, regional, and national organizations, including SAACURH and NACURH, by attending and advising student delegations at conferences;Engage and contribute to strategic planning for events, initiatives, and activities in collaboration with Student Involvement and Housing and Residence Life staff;Engage and contribute to planning and staffing traditional Student Involvement events and initiatives as needed; andEngage and contribute to the creation of strategies through the Housing and Residence Life Roadmap, including serving on the Roadmap committee as needed.Collaborations and Partnerships:Lead collaborations with campus partners in weekly recurring events/initiatives, as well as stand-alone events for The Ridge;Serve on university wide committees such as Welcome2Mason, Homecoming, and other committees as assigned;Engage as an active member of the Housing and Residence Life/Student Involvement/University Life professional staff, attending departmental meetings, collaborating with other staff members, and assisting in-office and department-wide initiatives and programs; andCommunicate and promote campus-wide engagement opportunities to residential students.Administrative Duties:Coordinate, prepare, and disseminate publications and marketing materials related to events and initiatives to residential students, staff, and faculty; andDevelop and manage assessment of initiatives to gather information on the impact of programs and events on the residential student experience in support of University Life strategic initiatives.Other Duties:Perform other related duties as assigned;Engage in assessment and reporting as needed;Actively support and comply with all University policies and department vision and goals;Serve in the Housing and Residence Life on-call rotation as scheduled; andAct as essential personnel in times of emergency and at critical times, with the ability to respond remotely, achieved through use of phone and telework technology.Required Qualifications:Master's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience to an advanced degree;Must possess a valid Driver's License;Experience in direct advisement, leadership development and human development of students, event management, event assessment, risk management, and budgeting;Demonstrated professional experience, typically obtained in 1+ year, in student activities, residence life, or related area within Student Affairs; andExperience hiring, onboarding, supervising, and developing graduate and student staff.Preferred Qualifications:Large-scale event management experience;Live-on Residence Life staff experience; andExperience with Housing and Residence Life on-call responsibilities.
