Duties

  • Install, trouble-shoot, maintain and repair complicated steam, hot water and forced air heating units and systems in buildings and facilities.
  • Perform maintenance, monitor and maintain set water chemistry parameters on steam and hot water heating systems on a variety of boilers.
  • Adjust heating plants for maximum efficiency, using test equipment such as: Digital Combustion Analyzers, monometers, Honeywell system testers.
  • Install, modify and repair pipes for systems such as sewage, water, oil, gas distribution and water closets, tubs, sprinkler systems and showers.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Background Security Investigation.
  • This position is part of the Army Drug testing Program.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
  • This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties
  • This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Physical Effort: Employee frequently works from stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch and work in awkward and cramped positions when working in hard-to-reach or confined spaces. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and over 45 pounds with assistance. May be required to exert very heavy physical effort, lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds (23 kilograms); operating power equipment and tools.
  • Working Conditions: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, in hard to reach places, and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, smoky, exposed to fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches and heated materials; possibility of eye injury, electric shock, broken bones and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There may be discomfort when wearing protective clothing, safety shoes, gloves and flash shield or eye goggles and other equipment as required. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment.
