POSITION TITLE Assistant Director of Academic Advising
PERSONNEL STATUS: Regular/Exempt

The Assistant Director of Academic Advising will assist in providing leadership to the Advising Department with a focus on advisor training and supervision, operational management, assessment of student learning and satisfaction. The Assistant Director will coordinate the university's Freshman Seminar program and manage the advising components of student success technology. The Assistant Director will be a liaison across campus to facilitate the delivery of a holistic advising experience inclusive of academic, career and transfer advising to new and returning students.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the advising of students in accordance with the department’s advising model.
- In the absence of the Director, provide leadership to the Advising Department.
- Coordinate the Freshman Seminar program, to include revising and maintaining course shell in Blackboard, onboarding and training new and continuing instructors, setting class schedule and other associated duties.
- Collaborate with departments and other campus divisions to implement student success programming.
- Provide operational management to the Advising Department including, scheduling, assessment and revision of the method of service delivery.
- Supervise Academic Advisors and complete performance evaluations, as needed.
- Coordinate on-boarding and professional development for the Advising Department and advising related needs across campus.
- Facilitate technology training for systems used by Advising team, including but not limited to PeopleSoft, Starfish, Blackboard, virtual meetings platforms, and Teams group.
- Provide direct support and coordination for development & assessment of learning outcomes in compliance with current Middle States standards.
- Work with the Director of Advising on continued assessment and integration of the retention system, including retention alerts and performance reporting.
- Assist with the use of predictive analytics and data analysis to facilitate data driven decisions for the Advising Department.
- Assist with the coordination of retention related outreach, meeting with institutionally targeted populations.
- Assist with the identification and completion of Advising Center department strategic planning and goals in coordination with the Director and Advising team.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: A Master's degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling or related field is required. A minimum of four (4) years of direct experience with the delivery of academic advising in a higher education setting required. A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated leadership in student services, higher education, or a related field required. Experience in development of student learning outcomes and assessment. Experience in program and workshop development. Experience supporting at-risk, probationary and first generation students. Experience with supervising professional employees. Experience in utilizing data analysis to facilitate decision making.
Conditions of Employment: This is a Union Position. Occasional evening and weekend hours required. Please be advised, COVID-19 vaccinations and booster are encouraged but not required for faculty and staff to be employed at Bowie State University. This protocol is subject to change.
SALARY: $78,000 - $78,000
