Principal Compliance Advisor

The Compliance Advisor performs a key risk management role (second line of defense), to help ensure Commercial Banking processes comply with applicable laws and regulations. While working within the Compliance Management Program, the Compliance Advisor III is responsible for delivering quality results by providing compliance advice to the business and executing or participating in Corporate Compliance processes.

The Compliance Advisor will support Commercial Core Operations and Treasury Management by:
  • Providing guidance on regulatory requirements applicable to the business.
  • Reviewing and revising business policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Creating and maintaining Compliance training(s), as appropriate.
  • Providing compliance advice on business initiatives and projects; and
  • Providing guidance on controls designed to mitigate risk of non-compliance with regulatory requirements and results of line of business monitoring of those controls.

  • Advise and provide effective challenges to Commercial Banking Loan Operations and Treasury Management on application of regulatory requirements, new product/services initiatives, process and product development, risk assessments, controls and controls monitoring and remediation of compliance issues.
  • Assess issues and events for compliance impact.
  • Develop and maintain strong understanding of Compliance Management Program and applicable laws and regulations such as FDPA, Regulation CC and OCC Heightened Standards.
  • Develop and maintain understanding of the business strategies, products, services, and processes of Commercial Loan Operations (closing, servicing, collateral and escrow management, letters of credit) and Treasury Management (e.g., lockbox servicing, deposit operations, escrow servicing, sales, and marketing).
  • Review Complaints generated from Commercial Loan Operations and Treasury Management and provide guidance on remediation and/or escalate with input from subject matter experts, as necessary.
  • Participate in compliance risk reporting activities, as directed.
  • Assist on ad-hoc projects Corporate Compliance projects.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in compliance, or at least 3 years of experience in legal, or at least 3 years of experience in audit, or at least 3 years of experience in Commercial Loans or Treasury Management.
  • At least 4 years of experience supporting and interacting with internal business clients.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree or Juris Doctorate.
  • At least 4 years of experience in compliance, or at least 4 years of experience in legal, or at least 4 years of experience in audit, or at least 4 years of experience in Commercial Loans or Treasury Management.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $118,700 - $135,400 for Compliance Advisory Specialist III

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
