We are seeking a Software Engineer IV to join our team supporting NOAA National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI) Data Stewardship in Asheville, N.C.
NCEI seeks software engineering support for Enhanced Data Access development and sustainment support team for maintaining and extensive portfolio of software, web application, and IT systems to facilitate searching, discovering, subsetting, and ordering from the largest collection of climate, oceanic, and geophysical data in the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide software engineering support for the Enhanced Data Access development and sustainment support team
- Data Access Specialist with requisite abilities and experience in software development methodologies and practices, including Agile.
- Demonstrated experience with Java (5+ years), JavaScript (5+ years), Spring Framework (5+ years), Node (3+ years), NPM (3+ years), Angular (2+ years), React (1+ years).
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD with cloud based tools or tools like Jenkins and Ancible (3+ years).
- Demonstrated understanding of cloud service technologies, microservices and web service architecture.
- Provide support for maintaining and extensive portfolio of software, web application, and IT systems to facilitate searching, discovering, subsetting, and ordering from the largest collection of climate, oceanic, and geophysical data in the world.
- Expertise in Java web applications, Oracle databases, Amazon Web Services, DevOps best practices, Python, and Linux-based IT infrastructure are required.
- Familiar with Common Access, OneStop, Climate Data Online (CDO), AIRS/HAS web applications.
- Additional expertise in logging systems using ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana, Graylog, and Grafana to deliver monthly and ad hoc reports is desired.
- Develops technical designs and specifications for software products.
- Researched and integrated design strategies, product specifications, development schedules, and user expectations into product capabilities.
- Uses software development technologies and tools to build, test, and maintain product modules, components, and subsystems.
- Provides technical leadership to lower-level developers. May provide product demonstrations and participate in trade shows and seminars.
- May require interaction with customers, vendors and external development partners. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 6 - 8 years of experience in the field or in a related area
- BS/BA
