Since 1977, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) has served the Fairfax County community by enhancing mobility, safety, and the quality of life of residents, businesses, and visitors through planning, coordinating, funding, implementing, and sustaining a multimodal transportation system. FCDOT is seeking a motivated, highly qualified, and public service-oriented Transportation Planner to join the Site Analysis Section. Working closely with commuters, employers, and other local and regional partners, this position is responsible for implementing Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs for the Fairfax County’s Commuter Services (FCCS) team. In a dynamic environment, this position will provide a challenging and rewarding experience for an individual interested in and committed to reducing single occupancy vehicle travel in Fairfax County.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Driver's license (required)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items under 65 lbs. in weight. Must be able to transport boxes of marketing materials for transportation events. Valid driver's license required to drive county vehicle. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel interview; may include exercise.

Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with federal, regional, state, and local agencies to plan, coordinate, and implement TDM strategies to mitigate congestion along major travel corridors.
- Coordinating with County agencies, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG), the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), and Transportation Management Agencies (TMAs) to implement effective programs.
- Management of the Commuter Friendly Communities (CFC) residential TDM outreach program.
- Tracking TDM metrics for reimbursement requests and quarterly reports.
- Maintaining and updating employer ACT CRM software database to store, manipulate, analyze, and present information.
- Developing and communicating status reports, meeting summaries, and other written materials as required to successfully complete projects or assignments.
- Preparing presentations for employers & community meetings, briefings for senior leadership, and other audiences, as required to meet specific audience needs.
- Conducting onsite employer and residential assessments to assist in program implementation.
- Attending project-related meetings and workshops, both in-person and virtual, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Performing other duties as assigned

- Knowledge and experience in TDM program management, specifically related to Fairfax County’s Commuter Services (FCCS) and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs.
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills, including ability to coordinate multiple projects, prioritize, and meet established deadlines.
- Strong written communication skills, including ability to prepare reports, meeting summaries, official items for partnering agencies consideration, letters, and other correspondence.
- Strong oral communication skills, as well as experience presenting to and providing subject matter expertise for and engaging with senior staff, employers, and the community.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
- Desire to advance a collaborative and supportive culture.
