The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking Preventive Maintenance Specialist's to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level.
Performs general inspections, planned and demand maintenance tasks of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment in one of nine Park Authority Rec Centers to include chillers, cooling towers, gas fired boilers and furnaces, automated energy management systems, stand-alone heat and AC units, commercial plumbing, and electrical components. Ensures that all building systems are inspected and in compliance with local, state, national building, health and fire codes. Responsibilities also include keeping track of operational cost for building systems, maintenance, and repairs for planned and demand maintenance, conducting site safety inspections, site mechanical inspections and facility inspections. Coordinates, supervises, and inspects all contracted building repairs, and preventive maintenance work performed. Prepares purchase requests, and uses procurement card as necessary for repairs. Additionally, maintains workflow in the automated work order system for assigned tasks, reads and interprets building blueprints and provides technical guidance on projects as a team member. Operates trucks to transport self and others, material, and equipment to multiple sites.

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to:
High school graduation or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education, plus two years of supervisory experience in building maintenance and repair.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's license (required)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, child protective services registry check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to climb using either a ladder or portable lift. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview; may include exercise.

- Supervises and participates in the work of a group of skilled mechanics performing systematic, on-site preventive maintenance inspections of schools and making incidental structural, mechanical and equipment repairs;
- Establishes work methods and procedures;
- Spot checks the work in progress for adherence to established practices and standards;
- Makes recommendations concerning the performance of the other work on a scheduled basis to prevent failures and breakdowns;
- Maintains liaison with appropriate central maintenance staff members;
- Maintains records of work performed; prepares reports, work orders and correspondence;
- Attends meetings and conferences;
- Maintains employee time and leave records;
- Operates truck to transport self and others, material and equipment.

- Good knowledge of accepted trade methods and techniques in the trade area of expertise;
- Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials of the various other major building maintenance trades;

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with staff, school, area and central office personnel;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
