Job Announcement

Provides technical engineering support work for the Office of the Fire Marshal. Communicates with customers concerning processes that occur within the Office of the Fire Marshal that are regulated by the Virginia Construction Code (VCC), the Statewide Fire Prevention code (SFPC) and related technical standards. Coordinates scheduling for the Office of the Fire Marshal inspection activities that are regulated by the aforementioned documents. This encompasses knowledge of complex fire protection systems and occupancy type. Assists the Town of Herndon and Town of Vienna officials and customers with the process for obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy. Performs other duties as required.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; and one year of engineering technical support work experience or one year of post-secondary vocational trade school or completion of one year of an applied science associate's degree.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in the land development industry; which may include site development, building construction or trade (plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fire protection) experience.
  • Experience in a high-volume call-center responding to customer inquiries.
  • Experience scheduling inspection activities.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and sanctions screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Must be able to communicate with others. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
