AARP's Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARP's reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARP's mission and value through one, integrated voice.
The Social Media Strategist role develops compelling social media content strategies and campaigns that drive strategic social media and brand objectives and deliver measurable results in line with organizational goals. Develops and executes social content strategy for key AARP issue areas, with a focus on working closely with the Strategic Communications, Integrated Marketing and Editorial teams. Manages day-to-day relationships with internal teams and agency partners to develop social media content, and partners with social media team colleagues on both paid and organic strategies to deliver content onto AARP's flagship social media platforms - including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest. Collaborates enterprise-wide to drive growth in key social media metrics, analyzes content performance and provides strategic guidance to better engage communities.

Responsibilities
- Develops and executes a communications and marketing plan for a defined portfolio of programs and services, while providing day-to-day communications and marketing support and superior client service.
- Partners with designer and editorial team to identify and create program success stories, interview opportunities with consumers and volunteers, and brand compliant assets to support AARP's brand story.
- Partners with programmatic teams and influences internal business units, channel owners, and external vendors to develop and launch creative tactics that support campaign strategy. Develops briefs and creative components. Facilitates review and production for online channels.
- Develops timelines to meet project commitments and to ensure deliverables from across the organization and external partners are on time.
- Works with management and partners in other departments to measure and report on program results, performs research and leverages segmentation data.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in developing and implementing social media strategies for a variety of clients at an agency or large, complex organization. Previous social media management experience is required, including social content and community management. Some knowledge of paid social media marketing is preferred.
- Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of social communications platforms, blogs, mobile, user-generated sites, etc. Proven track record in applying new trends and emerging platforms to further a brand's social media strategy.
- Demonstrates a strong ability to manage/implement social content strategy and engage/grow communities for multiple stakeholders and audiences using data, analytics, and audience metrics to measure and drive growth.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Commitment to quality and accuracy -- strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills (e.g., listening, negotiating, facilitating, managing conflict, flexibility) and possesses a strong client-service orientation and account management skills, along with the ability to foster solid business relationships.
- Exceptional ability to collaborate with stakeholders and move multiple projects forward in large, complex organizations. This also includes proven ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Demonstrates an ability to thrive in creative environments and work cross-functionally with editorial, communications, and programs teams.
- Past experience working with journalists and/or editorial teams, or previous agency experience is a plus.
