Responsibilities & Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Infrastructure Assessment: Conduct a cost-benefit analysis to justify the migration to Microsoft Azure. Conduct a thorough analysis of our current infrastructure, including network architecture, storage systems, server infrastructure (REHL and MS Windows), security framework, and authentication mechanisms.
  • Cloud Migration Planning: Develop a detailed migration strategy that outlines the steps, timelines, and dependencies involved in transitioning our infrastructure to the Microsoft Azure cloud. Consider factors such as application dependencies, data transfer, resource provisioning, and potential downtime during the migration process. Determine the best migration approach (lift-and-shift, re-platform, re-factor, etc.) for the applications and data.
  • Azure Architecture Design: Design a scalable, secure, and efficient cloud architecture on Microsoft Azure that meets our business requirements. Consider the utilization of NetApp storage, REHL servers, MS Windows servers, zero trust network architecture, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for enhanced security.
  • Cost Optimization: Work closely with the management team to analyze the cost implications of migrating to the Azure cloud. Identify opportunities for cost optimization, such as right-sizing resources, leveraging Azure cost management tools, and implementing cost-effective storage and networking solutions. Identify cost optimization opportunities to minimize operational expenses without compromising performance or security. Implement best practices for cost management and resource utilization in Azure.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure that the proposed cloud architecture adheres to industry best practices for security, privacy, and compliance. Implement a zero-trust security model, including robust identity and access management (IAM) policies, encryption mechanisms, and secure communication channels.
  • Backup and Restore Solutions: Assess the backup and restore requirements for our infrastructure and design a comprehensive backup and restore strategy for the Azure cloud environment. Evaluate and recommend appropriate backup solutions and technologies, considering factors such as data retention policies, recovery time objectives (RTOs), and recovery point objectives (RPOs).
  • On-Premises Integration: Identify any on-premises systems, applications, or data that need to be integrated with the Azure cloud environment. Design and implement secure connectivity and data synchronization mechanisms, such as Azure ExpressRoute or VPN tunnels, to ensure seamless interaction between the on-premises and cloud environments.
  • VMware Integration: Assess the feasibility and benefits of integrating VMware solutions with the Azure cloud. Design a hybrid cloud architecture that leverages the strengths of both platforms and ensures compatibility, scalability, and efficient resource utilization.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with stakeholders from different teams, including IT operations, application development, and management, to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and address concerns related to the cloud migration plan.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Create comprehensive documentation that outlines the migration plan, architectural diagrams, cost analysis, security considerations, backup and restore strategies, and other relevant information. Generate periodic progress reports and present findings to project sponsors and key stakeholders.
  • Confidentiality: The Azure Cloud Design Consultant agrees to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information and data obtained during the engagement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 7 Years of experience implementing and supporting Azure Cloud Services such as:
    • Demonstrable expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud architecture and design.
    • Proven experience with Azure migration projects and successful implementations.
    • In-depth knowledge of various Azure services and solutions.
    • Familiarity with Azure security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree
  • Top Secret Clearance Level
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen

We are seeking an Azure Cloud Design Consultant to join our team supporting the Department of State, Bureau of the Comptroller and Global Financial Services (GFS)

The primary objective of the Azure Cloud Design Consultant is to assess, plan, and design an efficient and scalable cloud infrastructure on the Microsoft Azure platform for the Client's business needs. The Consultant will analyze the existing IT infrastructure and propose a comprehensive Azure-based solution that aligns with the Client's strategic goals. This is a 3-month temporary position that could lead to a full-time opportunity based on individuals' performance and business needs.
