Summary

The incumbent acts as an Enterprise system network expert in support of systems/services across the NAS Security and Enterprise Services (NASEO) Directorate. The incumbent will work independently under minimal direction of a manager/executive performing highly complex and challenging activities.

Duties

  • Applies experience and specialized knowledge, as well as an understanding of new technologies and methodologies, to solve complex problems and develop improved processes or systems.
  • Assignments frequently require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines. Broad policies and objectives provide general guidance but require the innovation for developing new or modified processes taking into consideration FAA policies, government-wide regulations, and industry standards.
  • Provides 24/7 Enterprise network operational support for NAS systems through monitoring and overseeing critical services and applications.
  • Ensures all procedures and actions taken protect the integrity of the NAS. Works directly with the Operations Integration, Operations Support, In Service Management, and other FAA organizations during the implementation of new/modified systems/services to insure operational readiness. This includes NEXTGEN current and future products and services. Maintains enterprise perspective of service impact and relates issues as necessary.
  • Documents technical impacts and reports potential impacts of NAS enterprise events. Briefs affected internal and external customers on interruptions and anticipated restoration activities.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and troubleshoots end to end service performance to identify anomalies that have a potential for service disruption. Maintains real-time awareness of events affecting customers and overall service impact.
  • May be required to provide technical assistance to return end to end services to operational mode when an interruption occurs. Monitors, troubleshoots and coordinates service outages with appropriate internal and external control centers.
  • Coordinates with appropriate control centers and vendors to restore enterprise services in an expeditious manner.
  • Analyzes and tracks performance trends to identify risks and potential impacts to end to end services. Evaluates causes of service degradations and recommends safeguards.
  • Maintains updated knowledge of networking protocols and experience with network management utilities.
  • Develops solutions to resolve NAS operational problems which can have national or international implications without intervention of management or a more experienced technical specialist. Work rarely needs review for assurance of technical compliance or cross-organizational conflict.
  • Maintains documentation relating to system operation procedures.
  • Prepares informational and technical reports and presents briefings to include issues, mitigation strategies, and recommendations.
  • Remains current on job-specific knowledge and trends through training courses, workshops, seminars.
  • Issues Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) when appropriate. Duties directly impact NAS Operations.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I / FG/GS-13. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience includes: Experience maintaining real-time awareness of events affecting customers and overall service impact and documenting/reporting potential impacts of NAS enterprise level events. Experience developing improved processes or systems including maintaining updated knowledge of networking protocols, network management utilities, and providing 24/7 enterprise network operational support for NAS systems through the monitoring and overseeing critical services and applications.
