Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a Communications Specialist to work on a large and complex communications support effort for a federal client. The candidate will work with clients to understand project communications requirements and provide recommendations that have a direct impact on the program and agency's mission. Responsibilities also include overseeing and directing communications efforts to meet deliverables and performing assignments within project constraints.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in successfully managing large-scale communications programs for federal clients. They will also have experience working in a fast-paced environment.

This full-time position is anticipated to be hybrid, with some work located at the client site in Washington, D.C., and some work taking place remotely. It is a contingent hire position.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Can manage special projects, assessments, assignments on behalf of client that may require access to pre-decisional and sensitive materials.
  • Provides administrative support, such as printing, front desk, mobile phone, audio/visual, and other technical support to client.
  • Can analyze organizational specific policy issues to identify and anticipate communication needs and potential reaction from stakeholders, including congressional, media, non-governmental, state, local and tribal, and other stakeholder communities.
  • Is able to identify changing policies and laws and their effect on client stakeholder initiatives, and the best way to communicate these requirements and operational impacts.
  • Identifies and implements communication requirements needed to help client leadership regarding novel, complex, and controversial operational, programmatic, and policy-related issues.
  • Can establish and maintain strong working relationships with subject matter experts, sector communications offices, and agency offices that work on congressional, public, and intergovernmental affairs.
  • Identifies and carries out requirements for internal communications efforts needed to support leadership. Provides technical assistance and directs efforts to management staff relating to the application of planning systems and management programs to meet client requirements.
  • Can advise and provide analytical support on problem definitions, planning methodologies, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluates the content of new or modified incoming directives, policy, process, and/or standards for projected impact upon agency programs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain an adjudicated CBP Background Investigation.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, or related field.
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working on Federal programs.
  • Record of providing excellent customer service to senior leadership, individuals, and organizations.
  • Ability to produce communications in various formats and tailored to different audiences.
  • Can add value to interactions with customers.
  • Has expertise in process mapping and documentation.
  • Is proficient with knowledge management techniques, such as SharePoint.
  • Has expertise with process analysis and the ability to develop workflow strategies.
  • Has strong organizational skills: can track multiple tasks with numerous stakeholders.
  • Can demonstrate effective decision-making techniques.
  • Has strong presentation skills to all audiences.
  • Can think both conceptually and strategically, while also maintaining a practical approach to time management and resources.
  • Has strong business acumen.
  • Has outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Can use analytical, consulting, and facilitation skills.
  • Can keep track of multiple projects with competing priorities in a changing environment.
  • Has experience with coordinating all aspects of training events, such as: schedule, funding, logistics, communications, records administration, evaluations, and data input.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
