Junior Testing TechnicianThe George Mason University, College of Science, Center for Collision Safety and Analysis (CCSA), invites applications for a Junior Testing Technician to perform support work at the Federal Outdoor Impact Laboratory (FOIL) and support the conduction of crash tests. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:Preparation of test vehicles including clean-out (pressure washing) of vehicles, draining vehicle fluids, painting vehicles, checking pressure in the tires, and installing instrumentation trays and other testing equipment using power tools as needed;Set-up and installation of required items for test articles including digging, shoveling, raking, and compacting different types of soil, assisting in building test fixtures, assembling test components (guardrails, concrete walls, signs, etc.), and painting as needed;Set-up and take down of cameras, power cables, USB cables, and trigger cables, and cleanup of damaged vehicles and test-crashed test articles required before and after testing;Maintenance work including keeping the garage and trailers clean, as well as minor landscaping, including weed whacking to keep FOIL running and looking at its optimum capability;Loading and unloading materials from vehicles and equipment;General assisting of skilled tradesmen; andMaintaining all test equipment and performing repair tasks when necessary.Required Qualifications:Ability to support the conducting of vehicle crash tests, including but not limited to, vehicle preparation, set-up and installation of required test articles, and maintenance of test equipment;Willing to learn to use power tools, hand tools, and other test installation equipment as needed;Ability to take initiative and follow through on specific requests; andExhibit independent decision-making.Preferred Qualifications:Experienced in automotive repair and paint\bodywork;Experience in machine shop operation;Experience in forklift operation;Experience in boomlift operation;Experience in backhoe operation;Experience in welding;Experience in mill operation;Experience in lathe operation; andExperience in plasma cutting.
