Job Summary

Aptive is seeking an Audio Visual (AV) / Technical Support Specialist in our Washington, D.C. studio. Using your multi-skilled AV, lighting, photography, and technical skills will ensure effective communication with various audiences across different media platforms leading to successful training instruction, meetings, town halls and conferences. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience providing AV and Technical Support skills for production of materials in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information Technology (OIT) and the Talent Management Office

As the AV/ Tech Support Specialist you will be an integral part of the production team. You will be responsible for ensuring all projects are completed on time and exceed client expectations. You will play a crucial role in maintaining all technical solutions that enhance our production setting. By using your expertise in AV, technology support and lighting design, you will contribute to creating environments that are aesthetically pleasing, functional, efficient, reliable, and functioning optimally.

You will be responsible for technical end-user support services, common video, instructional technology, lighting, and audio equipment. The AV / Tech Support Specialist will support a diverse creative team to deliver digital content creation across client owned properties located in Washington, D.C. You will support the development of live synchronous, online events, training, conferences and/or meetings through the VA IT Campus, studio recorded events, rehearsals, congressional hearings, external delivery modalities (e.g.: LinkedIn, Twitter) and documentary pieces, commercial-style shoots in a studio setting.

This position is in Washington, D.C., with limited travel as required (less than 10%) per client request. Working on-site 8:00 am through 5:00 pm EST, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The Audio-Visual Specialist will provide technical support, training, and maintenance on all audiovisual equipment in the Washington, D.C. studio.
  • Provide tier I support for the computers, monitors, keyboards, and mice located in these spaces, although the Information Technology Department will be responsible for maintaining, updating, replacing this hardware, and maintaining network connectivity in all spaces.
  • Maintain and support audio-visual equipment.
  • Promptly report any computer, software, or network connectivity issues.
  • Perform troubleshooting and minor repairs to audio visual equipment.
  • Coordinate all new projects with the Production team.
  • In the instance of equipment failure, attempt to provide a workaround or temporary accommodation for an event that is currently in progress.
  • Formally communicate all equipment issues and repair status.
  • Provide training and support to the Production Team, presenters and staff using studio technology.
  • Create clear, concise, and up-to-date instructions for the use of studio technology.
  • Assist with the setup and support of A/V equipment for live-synchronous-online events, training, conferences and/or meetings; studio recorded events; rehearsals; and ad-hoc staff training.
  • Possess a deep understanding of studio, AV, photography, and lighting technologies, and equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve AV / Tech system issues, collaborating with other teams as needed to ensure smooth operation.
  • Create detailed system design documentation, including plans, specifications, and diagrams.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of projects.
  • Coordinate, set-up and maintain photographic, video and recording equipment.
  • Experience supporting executive-level clients and creating meaningful relationships.
  • Prepare locations, technology and other systems needed for production.
  • Communicates daily with creatives and project managers on project status and deliverables.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to carry out multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarize presenters with the studio lighting and video technologies for live in-studio production, presentation templates and answer all questions associated with technology and production.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in visual arts, Audio Visual, IT, or a related field. Relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Proven experience as an AV / Tech Support Specialist or a similar role, with a minimum of 3 years in the industry.
  • Possess a core understanding of common video signals and audio signal flow.
  • Experience with common instructional technology equipment e.g., cameras, presentation remotes, pen displays, projectors, video conference technology
  • Possess basic AV and On-Site Studio Production troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to make minor repairs on studio room technology.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal guidance.
  • Ability to communicate well with others, both verbally and in writing, and be able to effectively interact in a pleasant, positive manner.
  • Ability to coordinate and maintain relationships with cross-functional departments to ensure efficient operations.
  • Ability to measure and report on metrics and indicators of service level activity and customer satisfaction.
  • Possess a strong customer-service mentality and attitude.
  • Experience in the o perations of studio AV technology in the production of professional live synchronous, online events, training, conferences and/or meetings, studio recorded events, rehearsals, congressional hearings, external delivery modalities (e.g.: LinkedIn, Twitter) and documentary pieces, commercial-style shoots in a studio setting.
  • Proficiency in lighting design software and tools, video and recording equipment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • End-to-end familiarity with photo and video production process, form pre-production through post.
  • A capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
  • Tech-savviness and familiarity with production environments.
  • Ability to work on-site 8:00 am through 5:00 pm EST, Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

  • Experience with a US Government customer.
