They recognize the importance of intersectionality and the lived experiences of diverse people and strive to offer programs and services welcoming to all students and relevant to their needs.About the Position:The Assistant Director for Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Response and Prevention reports to the Associate Director of SSAC. The Assistant Director will primarily support student survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence via direct assistance and connection to University and local resources. The Assistant Director will assist in facilitating primary and secondary prevention to include workshops, bystander intervention training, and peer education. The Assistant Director is a professional who is committed to fostering the holistic growth of students while striving to maintain the well-being and safety of the University community.Responsibilities:Direct Survivor SupportConduct intake and screenings with student survivors of sexual assault, sexual harassment, interpersonal violence, and stalking;Provide case management of student survivors and occasionally students in distress;Provide compassionate navigation of campus and community resources to student survivors;Accompany student survivors to meetings with Title IX and George Mason University Police Department as requested by the student;Support student survivors in developing options for maintaining safety and/or action plans in the event of an escalation of violence;Ensure that student records are maintained in accordance with university policies and applicable laws and are readily available to internal staff; maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with university policy, local, state and federal laws; andCultivate an understanding of campus approaches to supporting survivors and prevention efforts, including best practices and innovations.PreventionCoordinate the George Mason University Bystander Intervention program;Oversee the Relationship Peer Leaders program, including recruitment, training, workshop development, evaluation, and overall management;Assist in the creation and delivery of workshops and other prevention programs on sexual and interpersonal violence, consent, bystander intervention, healthy relationships, boundaries, healing practices, and related topics;Provide information, resources, and presentations to the Mason community on supporting survivors; andDevelop resources and materials, as needed, that focus on student survivor experiences and needs.Collaboration with Mason and Community EntitiesIdentify, develop, and maintain strong working relationships with relevant University and community agencies. Assist in the development of resources and support options for student survivors within and outside of the University;Provide support and consultation to SSAC staff and other Mason community members on topics relevant to area of responsibility, including case management, content, expertise, and trauma-informed practices;As requested by the Director or Associate Director, serve on and participate in committees related to sexual and interpersonal violence prevention and response; andAssist the Director and Associate Director with special projects related to the field of sexual and interpersonal violence and other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:A master's degree in student personnel administration, higher education, counseling, social work or a related area, or equivalent combination of related education and experience.Preferred Qualifications:Progressive work experience (typically obtained 1+ years) in a university setting within student affairs or equivalent relevant nonprofit work experience;Demonstrated experience with direct support of survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence, including safety planning and screening for lethality;Demonstrated experience developing and delivering educational programs, prevention efforts, and trainings; andAssessment experience.
