Job Description
The Washington Post has an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Senior Publicist who will help build our growing brand, leading the storytelling for The Post's award-winning politics team and journalism.
The candidate will need to be a strategic thought partner, a captivating storyteller, an exceptional writer, and an organized project manager. The candidate will be responsible for promoting our journalists and their work, collaborating across the team on all news that intersects with politics. The ideal candidate will have prior broadcast, communications and social media outreach experience, spanning both proactive and reactive efforts.

Responsibilities:
- Engage with staff across the organization to continue reinforcing The Washington Post's dominance in politics and accountability journalism.
- Create and execute personality-driven strategies for politics journalists.
- Contribute to the strategy and promotion of leadership-focused politics products, i.e., unique newsletters, podcasts, etc., aligning with internal stakeholders.
- Drive all external communications around politics-related content, including interview opportunities, speaking engagements and more.
- Develop messaging, write press materials and other documents, including reports, memos, talking points and FAQs.
- Continually foster deep knowledge of industry and trends to inform creative strategies for promotion and media outreach.
- Facilitate incoming requests and media inquiries working with Communications senior leadership.
- Establish and maintain outstanding relationships with media and consumer-facing outlets.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience counseling senior level stakeholders on delivering key messaging.
- Prior experience building and executing on longer term, creative, proactive communications campaigns.
- Ability to distill complex information and synthesize key points clearly, succinctly and quickly for broad audiences.
- Ability to interact effectively and develop credibility from senior leadership, colleagues and external business partners.
- Strategic, collaborative and creative thinker who can multitask on a variety of projects, prioritize moment to moment and deliver results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Inquisitive mindset with well-developed critical, analytical abilities.
- Strong presentation, oral and written skills.
- Bachelor's Degree is required
- At least six (6) years of related work experience.
