Research Compliance Specialist / Assistant Facility Security Officer George Mason University's Office of Research Integrity and Assurance invites applications for the Research Compliance Specialist / Assistant Facility Security Officer position. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:The primary responsibilities of the Research Compliance Specialist include:Assists in the coordination and tracking of export and sanctions compliance training, to include learning Mason Leaps (how to upload and update training modules; how to set up learning assignments; how to enroll and unenroll people; how to set up notifications and reminders; how to run reports to track completion), and tracking completion;Maintains records, including laptop certifications, requests for clean laptops for international travel, foreign affiliate export compliance forms, export authorizations, and technology control plans. Drafts technology control plans, exports authorization requests, and other documents, as needed;Performs restricted party screening using Visual Compliance, uploads batch screenings monthly, and reviews potential matches, including daily alerts. Sets up and trains new Visual Compliance users. Sends screening reminders to all Visual Compliance users and maintains the list of users. Assists with additional research compliance activities, as needed;Performs other compliance activities such as: maintaining export website, assisting departments purchasing from foreign vendors, and performing Automated Export System (AES) filings. Onboards new users in the SRC system, including notifying new SRC users of the onboarding requirements, tracking completion, notifying SRC when all requirements are met, and sending regular compliance reminders to users;Assists in the administration of the facility security program, including the following responsibilities:Processing visit requests;Maintaining foreign travel log;Tracking annual training requirements;Tracking requirements for cleared new hires and employees receiving clearances;Participate in self-inspections and annual assessments;Assist with reporting requirements to the US Government;Utilize DoD database systems; andOther related tasks as assigned.The position provides administrative support to the export and sanctions compliance program. The position also will serve as Assistant Facility Security Officer.Candidates must be a citizen of the United States.Required Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent;Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required);Proven experience in a field that demonstrates the ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple projects;Proven commitment to accuracy and thoroughness;Excellent written and verbal communication skills;Proficiency in MS Office; andInterest in learning about research compliance related to export control and sanctions laws and regulations, the National Security Program Operating Manual (NIPSOM), and NIST 800-171.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree;Top secret clearance, either current or within the past five years;Knowledge of the National Security Program Operating Manual (NIPSOM);Knowledge of U.S. export and sanctions laws and regulations; andExperience working in a university environment.
