Grants Administrator The George Mason University Office of Sponsored Programs seeks to hire a collaborative individual for a Grants Administrator position. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:As part of the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Grants Administrator serves a critical role in supporting research activities at George Mason by facilitating and coordinating with sponsors, university faculty, departments, and central offices, and providing expertise within the Office of Sponsored Programs, to ensure the successful administration of externally sponsored funding and submission of proposals.The Grant's Administrator facilitates all aspects of proposal preparation and submission process to ensure proposals meet federal, sponsor, and university guidelines and will be expected to possess the following based on experience:Knowledge of federal rules and regulations relating to research grant and/or contract activity;Knowledge of university policies and procedures relating to grant and contracts activity;Knowledge of university processes, systems and offices related to and/or involved in grant and contract submission and management;Ability to interpret and apply Federal, university, departmental and sponsor policies; andAbility to read and interpret Funding Opportunity Announcements and Requests for Proposals, to identify administrative and compliance requirements.Responsibilities:Follow and adhere to processes and activities related to pre-award function;Perform pre-award activities for Office of Sponsored Programs:Ensure proposals meet federal, sponsor, and university guidelines;Provide expertise on sponsor and university policies;Monitor the external regulatory environment related to sponsored funding; provide compliance checks and oversight for the University;Monitor accuracy of data for internal and external reporting; andEnsure sponsor requirements and deliverables are met; and submission of grant and contract proposals;Maintain a portfolio of active proposals;Ensure management of the Just-In-Time process;Ensure proposals are entered and routed in a timely manner for review;Review budgets and budget justification, which includes proofing the budget for inconsistencies and ensuring accuracy;Review budgets for consistency with sponsor guidelines; monitor compliance with Sponsor and University regulations regarding submission; verify all financial information to include application of the appropriate overhead rate for the project;Advise the PI and Departments on administrative requirements in preparing proposal submissions;Advise PI and Departments on budget adjustments and revisions necessary to meet the sponsor requirements;Review certain proposal elements (bio-sketches and facilities & resources) for consistency, accuracy, and completeness;Review proposals for consistency with sponsor guidelines on budget, format, font size, page limits excluding narrative content (obtain and review sponsor guidelines);Monitor proposal status and advise PI on requirements and deadlines associated with research protection protocols;Work effectively with other offices (Fiscal Services, ORIA, schools, departments, divisions) on research proposal; andOther related duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:Demonstrated (generally 1+ year(s)) effective work-related grants and contracts management experience;Effective interpersonal skills in a professional environment; demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills;Proficiency in the use of computers; requires solid working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);Demonstrated skill in providing effective customer service;Ability to analyze data and formulate conclusions;Ability to learn changing technologies related to grants and contracts management;Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks simultaneously;Ability to create high-quality written documents;Ability to interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and peers;Ability to proactively resolve issues in a timely manner;Effectively manage high-volume and complex transactions; andAbility to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment with multiple, simultaneous priorities.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree preferred;Two or more years' work-related grants and contracts management experience preferred;Experience working on sponsored awards in a university, nonprofit, or private sector setting is preferred; andAny appropriate combination of relevant education and/or work experience may be considered.Candidates must be:A citizen of the United States;A person who is a lawful permanent resident of the United States (a "Green Card" holder);A person who is a "protected individual" as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a) (3);
