School of Nursing - 9-Month Term Instructional FacultyThe George Mason University, School of Nursing invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, term faculty position at the academic rank of Assistant Professor. The incumbent will demonstrate and teach patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students. The School currently enrolls over 700 students, with baccalaureate and Master's programs (in-seat and on-line) and both a Doctoral of Nursing Practice (DNP) program that includes advanced practice nursing concentrations in family practice, psychiatric mental health, and adult gerontology, as well as administration and a PhD in Nursing program. Further information about the School may be found at: https://nursing.gmu.edu/.Responsibilities: The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:Teaching:Creates an atmosphere of engagement in student learning that reflects the strategic goals of the university;Teaches assigned courses in accordance with faculty expectations as outlined in the workload policy and GMU faculty handbook;Optimizes the online teaching environment to be conducive to student learning by developing creative, challenging, and evidence-based learning opportunities;Proficiently uses online technology and resources to provide informed feedback and critique in a thoughtful, well-written and timely manner;Upholds the expectations of masters/doctoral level work with respect to program and course learning outcomes; andEffectively supervises practicum experiences which may include on-site, virtual, or lab stimulation student assessments, as well as evaluation of student practicum journals and logs.Scholarship:Stays current with clinical practice and evidence that support content area expertise, professional growth, and professional certification and licensure requirements; andDemonstrates commitment to scholarly advancement through translational research, scholarly inquiry, and dissemination through professional journals and conferences.Service:Serves on School of Nursing, College of Health and Human Services, and George Mason University committees to promote the development and growth of the institution;Serves as a liaison for the School, College, and University in the community or through professional activities;Actively participates in professional associations; andAdvises students on academic, professional, and/or personal issues while providing referrals when appropriate.Required Qualifications:A current, unencumbered Virginia Registered Nurse license at time of employment date;A terminal degree in nursing (DNP or PhD);A significant record of professional contributions in the field of nursing; andExperience with distance learning in an online environment.
