Clinic NurseThe George Mason University Student Health Services Department invites applications for a Clinic Nurse position. About the Department: Student Health Services (SHS) provides health care services at George Mason University. SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at Mason, including but not limited to, initial and follow up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provide services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as needed basis.About the Position: The Clinic Nurse supports the clinic health care providers with ambulatory nursing health care skills and services. He/she maintains a safe and orderly flow of patients through the clinic. The nurse participates in student immunization review and administration, allergy treatment immunotherapy, mass flu clinics, telephone and in-person triage, provides wound care, treatment, and medication administration ordered by the providers. In addition, the Clinic Nurse participates in one of the SHS committees and provides input for policy and procedure process changes or revisions.Responsibilities: Triage (Telephonic and In-Person):Delivers safe and effective triage to students walking in or calling the clinic for acute appointments; andUtilizes approved protocols for triage and complies with documentation requirements as stated in the triage policy and procedures.Clinic Procedures and Treatments:Clinic procedures and treatments; andCompletes annual competency review requirements.Manages Patient Flow:Maintains a safe, efficient, and orderly flow of patients through the clinic; andAccurately utilizes the EMR and Nurse Order Monitor for documentation and clinic flow monitoring.Immunizations and Allergy Immunotherapy:Administers immunizations and allergy immunotherapy;Transcribes immunization records; andMaintains knowledge and skill of changing CDC and WHO requirements.Laboratory Functions - Clinical:Maintains proficiency in phlebotomy skills, performance of CLIA waived tests, and knowledge of basic laboratory processing requirements;Completes lab competencies; andCompletes bi-annual MTS competencies.Preceptor/Mentor for BSN Students and New Hires - Clinical:Participates as a preceptor for BSN students as assigned;Provides input and offers support as a mentor to future GMU nurse graduates; andParticipates as a nurse preceptor to new hires.Committee:Participates as a member on one of the SHS committees.Special Projects:Completes summer, winter projects, and management of the daily/weekly/monthly log;Seeks, develops, and participates in special projects assigned or volunteered to support continued training, education, improvements, and team building;Monitors and maintains the daily/weekly/monthly log to ensure all requirements are met; andReports missed requirements to the Clinic Coordinator.Required Qualifications:Must be a graduate of an accredited diploma, Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Registered Nursing;Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or valid Multi-State License;Healthcare Provider BLS certification;Telephonic and in-person triage skills;Phlebotomy skills and IV training;Performs EKGs, administers nebulizer treatment;Knowledge of Allergy Immunotherapy; andExperience typically obtained in three years of nursing experience in a hospital or health care setting, in addition to clinical experience obtained while seeking a nursing degree.Preferred Qualifications:Experience typically obtained in one year of experience in a physician's office (preferably adult medicine or college health); andKnowledge of adolescent and adult immunization requirements.
