Adult Education ELL English Language Learners Teacher Position- Part-time
Program: The Newcomers English Language Learners NELL Program
Hourly pay rate: $30-$35 (The pay rate is determined by experience and TESOL certification)
Work hours: 8:00 am-1:30 pm, Monday-Friday
Purpose Statement:
The job of the Adult Education NELL Teacher is to successfully teach multi-leveled newly arrived limited English speakers ages 17-22, English, reading, and writing skills in various content areas. The goal is to prepare students for English mastery and to transition into higher academic levels.
Qualifications
Experience: Job-related experience is required; experience teaching English as a Second Language, especially to young adults.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a job-related area, a TESOL certificate holder, or a Valid Virginia Department of Education teaching license (preferred).

Essential Skills:
- Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
- Administers developmental testing programs, subject-specific assessments, etc. to assess student competency levels and/or develop individual learning plans.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of Counsel students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and a variety of personal issues.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments to provide an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Participates in a variety of meetings/Professional Development to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Clearances
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
- Tuberculosis Skin Test.
Public Health Compliance
- Proof of COVID vaccination. Exemptions for religious/medical will be reviewed.
- Must follow safety and health protocols.
