Program Assistant, Liberty & Law CenterThe Liberty & Law Center at Scalia Law School at George Mason University is seeking a part-time Program Assistant for its new initiative, Voices for Liberty: Free Speech, Civil Rights, and Social Progress. The Voices for Liberty Initiative is exploring the relationship between freedom of speech and civil rights. The Program Assistant will support Voices for Liberty primarily by providing event and administrative assistance. The position is set to expire in December 2024.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Duties include, but are not limited to: Administrative Support:Schedule meetings and liaise with various GMU departments;Process invoices, reimbursements, and honoraria;Make travel arrangements for speakers and Initiative staff;Prepare grant reports, memos, and other correspondence;Keep spreadsheets updated with data for the Initiative as a whole;Proactively ensure website updates are completed; andServe as a liaison between Center staff and Initiative Director.Event Support:Support Initiative staff in planning, executing, and tracking events;Maintain an events checklist to ensure all components of events are being completed;Create marketing materials based on existing templates for campus events;Provide in-person support for major events;Be primary contact with the Initiative's travel agent for event needs; andPrepare reports about completed events, including attendance statistics, feedback from participants, etc.General Support:Complete other tasks as requested by Initiative and Center staff; andUpdate and create content for social media and assist with other Initiative marketing and communications.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite;Effective organizational skills;Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities effectively, ability to work independently with detail-orientation and accuracy;Knowledge of basic financial transactions;Effective written and oral communication;Ability to present a professional demeanor and to interact with high-level professionals; andAbility to work some flexible hours (early mornings and evenings) and some weekends as needed. Preferred Qualifications:Experience using Eventbrite or similar event management system;Experience using Excel to track, report and analyze data;Experience in the use of social media for marketing purposes;Experience using Constant Contact;Experience using WordPress; andInterest in freedom of speech and civil rights.
