Job Announcement
Works as part of our Technology Infrastructure Division’s (TID) Enterprise Networking team. The county wide enterprise network is a large complex Metropolitan (MAN) and Wide area network (WAN) infrastructure that delivers secure transmission of data, video and voice communications for 400+ regional locations providing critical county services.
Under the general supervision of the Network Operations Manager this Tier-II network operations position works with the Tier-IV and Tier-III teams for an all-round understanding of the enterprise network. Acts as the frontline troubleshooting network service interruptions.
This position is the frontline for initial troubleshooting. In addition this position is primarily focused on the installation, maintenance and support of the local area network to include network closet patching, port activations, uninterruptable power supply (UPS), Wifi infrastructure as well as provide assistance with related initiatives such as new facility network projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Possession of an associate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, electronics, or a related field; plus three years of network and/or telecommunications experience; or a bachelor's degree in such fields; plus one year of experience in network or telecommunications system design, analysis, installation, and troubleshooting.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment. Lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required. Ladder climbing is required. Driving is required. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

- Provides Tier-I and Tier-II network support that includes installation, configuration, maintenance and change management of the network infrastructure and equipment.
- Acts as a technical specialist in troubleshooting and incident management during service interuptions.
- Works in coordination with support teams providing assistance.
- Assists in resolving complex issues that involve network mangement tools such as packet analyzers and performance monitors.
- Serves as a point of contact between the network support and other internal departments.
- Assists in documentation of network diagrams, inventory and changes.
- Lifting, climbing and driving are all activities required of this position.
- Participates in the on-call support rotation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Three years (3) of network operations experience.
- Certification equivalent to a CCNA / CCENT.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with layer-1 as well as layer-2 and layer-3 networking equipment, protocols and services in a wireless and wired enterprise network.
- Self motivated individual that is able to work independently and collaboratively demonstrating excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with many network technologies to include but not limited to VLAN, Trunk, STP, RSTP, PVST, RPVST, VTP and basic knowledge of routing protocols.
- Knowledge and experience with many network technologies to include but not limited to VLAN, VRF, MPLS, VPN, QoS AND 802.11 in a MAN / WAN / LAN architecture.
- Experience within a federal or local government setting supporting public service agency business branches to include public safety, taxes, libraries and human services.
