• Troubleshooting the repairs and programming of Programmable Logic Controls (PLC's), Supervisory Control Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems and associated equipment used in automated process control.
• Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs instrumentation such as flow level and analytical transmitters.
• Provides assistance to the instrumentation supervisor in coordinating the daily work activities and technical assessment of equipment and component failure.
• Performs other related duties as required; utilize personal computers for online time and attendance, creating and processing work orders and requisitioning parts and materials.
• Subject to 24-hour call back and must therefore be able to work emergency overtime.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of electronics theory and of the methods and practices of electronic equipment repair;
• Thorough knowledge of the functioning and maintenance of process control instrumentation and electronic equipment;
• Thorough knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA), Computerized Maintenance Systems (CMMS) and Enterprise Asset Management systems (EAM);
• Thorough knowledge of supply policies and procedures;
• Knowledge of safe work practices as they relate to wastewater instrumentation work;
• Ability to locate and correct defects in electronic and instrumentation devices;
• Ability to program, manage and utilize SCADA and related software;
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work from circuit diagrams and manufacturer's manuals;
• Ability to distinguish different color wiring;
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, circuit diagrams, and manuals;
• Ability to comprehend and comply to safety practices;
• Ability to work in confined spaces;
• Ability to comprehend confined space training;
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with customers, employees and supervisors;
• Ability to lead the work of trainee and journeyman instrumentation technicians.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education; completion of a vocation course in electronics, and five years of work experience related to the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial instrumentation or electronic/electrical equipment found in water or wastewater utilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completed training course in electronics
• Valid Virginia Industrial Instrumentation Technician Journeyman's License
• Instrument Society of America (ISA) certification
• Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems
• Experience with Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
• Experience with continuous emission monitoring (CEM) and data network & programming software.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift 50 pounds. Climb ladders, work in confine spaces, work from elevated heights such as catwalks etc, and use respirators . All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel interview and may include exercise.
