SENIOR UTILITIES ENGINEER (CE IV)

An Overview
The Senior Utilities Engineer provides high level leadership and management of the Transportation and Environmental Services Utility Inspections team. This position will provide guidance and assistance in the processing, issuance and inspection of utility permits for T&ES. This role is responsible for the review of engineered drawings with a specific emphasis on erosion and sediment controls and constructability. The Senior Utilities Engineer will also assist in coordination and implementation of citywide initiatives. This role is also responsible for coordination with multiple agencies and groups such as planners, engineers, residence and business owners.

The Opportunity
  • Provide scheduling, Guidance and oversight of the T&ES Utility Inspections team;
  • Review, design and inspection of both wet and dry utilities;
  • Understanding of the Virginia Sediment Control Handbook and constructability/ implementation of erosion and sediment controls;
  • Provide assistance and coordination related to the implementation of citywide development projects;;
  • Operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with unique opportunities in field and office;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of City codes, ordinances, and processes;
  • Ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines;
  • Ability to communicate both orally and written with a variety of audiences;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

The Ideal Candidate
To qualify for this position all candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or other related field and eight (8) years of experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess, or obtain within six months of employment, a license to practice as a Registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
