Overview
The Security Network Engineer's main role is to configure, test, maintain, and administer IT Security related networking equipment and applications. A secondary role is to assist with the overall execution of the IT Security program, and support other non-network related security systems and functions. This includes ensuring the availability of network security devices such as firewalls, gateways, proxies, DDoS mitigation, and monitoring systems. The Security Network Engineer will also assist in overseeing the ongoing maintenance and operation of other security systems such as mail filter, web gateway, endpoint security, SIEM, and other security systems as appropriate.

Responsibilities
- Be knowledgeable of the overall Security Program, and write or edit portions as needed
- Be knowledgeable of a broad range of Information Security standards and best practices across the industry, set new standards for NWFCU IS best practices
- Lead, coordinate and participate in key process improvements as they relate to network security
- Participate in and support policy creation and review, and the development of long-term strategic goals for networking systems
- Coordinate and collaborate with all aspects of the IT Infrastructure team to minimize security friction while maintaining high standards for Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of NWFCU systems
- Configure, test, deploy, operate, and maintain Next Generation firewalls and monitoring/management consoles or system
- Conduct research on IT Security related network hardware, software, and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services
- Support the deployment of workstations, network devices, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls, encryption systems, and all host security systems
- Manage all firewalls at NWFCU, including firewall rule and policy deployment.
- Perform network, and security audits.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform IT Security related network improvements, upgrades, and repairs
- Ensure the deployment of Network Intrusion Prevention and Detection Systems (IPS and IDS)
- Enforcement of regulatory compliance to data access, information sharing, and protecting personally identifiable information (PII) for members and employees
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or comparable experience
- Minimum 8 years' experience in the Information Systems field
- Network+, CCNA/CCNP, Security+CEH, CISSP preferred
- Understanding of network security applications and systems such as e-mail gateway, web gateway, firewalls, and proxies
- The ability to assist in authoring and reviewing security policy, standards, and procedures
- Ability to work effectively on-site in our Herndon, VA headquarters and equally effectively remotely
- Accuracy and detail-orientation
- Ability to review and analyze or interpret data and documentation and to make decisions regarding subsequent actions
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate new skills as required by the organization after sufficient time and training to support an evolving environment
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and/or with members
- Ability to work M-F 8:00AM - 4:30PM
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level government security clearance
