Department Marketing Statement:

The Senior Director, Information Technology position involves highly responsible, supervisory, managerial and technical work of a difficult and complex nature. The incumbent is responsible for development and ongoing refinement of the assigned functional area's strategy. The incumbent closely collaborates with other departments and offices, and management of the Authority. The assigned functional areas of responsibility may include information technology infrastructure, applications, enterprise information management, business intelligence and technical support. The incumbent ensures that the Authority's systems produce knowledge essential to achievement of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WAMTA)'s mission and strategic goals. The Senior Director keeps abreast of developments in knowledge management and information technology.

General Hybrid Work Statement:

This opportunity is a hybrid opportunity allowing for flexibility between virtual and in-person work subject to the Authority's telework policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Information Technology, Computer Sciences or Business Administration

Or
  • In lieu of a non-technical or non-business-related degree an additional five (5) years of experience in software development life cycle, change management, IT governance, performance metrics, managing and implementing company-wide IT policies are required

Experience
  • Seventeen (17) years of experience in information technology, information management, business planning, administration, and project management. Which must include Ten (10) years of extensive responsible senior-level managerial experience

    • Master's degree in Information Management, Information Technology, Computer Sciences or Business Administration
  • Certification/Licensure
    • Project Management Professional (PMP), PMBOK

Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for development and ongoing refinement of the assigned functional area's strategy. The incumbent closely collaborates with other departments and offices, and management of the Authority. The assigned functional areas of responsibility may include information technology infrastructure, applications, enterprise information management, business intelligence and technical support. The incumbent ensures that the Authority's systems produce knowledge essential to achievement of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WAMTA)'s mission and strategic goals. The Senior Director keeps abreast of developments in knowledge management and information technology.

Essential Functions
  • Directs the assigned information technology functional area's strategic and tactical planning, budgeting, business process, management, forecasting and operations.
  • Oversees planning and implementation of assigned area of responsibility programs, such as internal business information, transit service scheduling, electronic fare collection, customer service, capital program management systems, or Data Center, networks, infrastructure technical support and other operations
  • Directs assigned teams and promotes collaboration in all aspects of information management including strategic planning, budgeting, program implementation, and performance evaluation.
  • Is responsible for keeping the VP & CIO and senior management abreast of the state-of-the practice and state-of-the art in knowledge management and operations.
  • Directs, manages, and evaluates performance of teams and assigned staff; coordinates performance recommendations with other appropriate supervisors and works cooperatively on labor management.
  • Represents the IT function at customer review meetings and Board Meetings when appropriate.
  • Guides Authority technology solutions to business problems. Assists Authority with technology management improvement. Leveraging existing technology and resources. Improves WMATA and IT operations through state of the art practices and technologies.
