Marketing Statement :
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join its team. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in electrical engineering designs using AUTOCAD, scope and specification development, equipment troubleshooting and testing. This includes medium and low voltageswitchgears/switchboards, MCCs and starters, microprocessor, electro-mechanical relays, over current protective devices, Transformers (dry & oil), UPS, Batteries, ATS, Generators, lighting and lighting control systems, voltage regulators, cables, and others. In this position, the incumbent will also be required up to 35% field work throughout various locations in the DC, MD, and VA area within WMATA's facilities to witness testing of electrical equipment. In addition to the requirement stated the following will also be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering to preferably include switchgear, power control components and traction power equipment experience.
Or, an equivalent combination of post high school education and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering, to preferably include switchgear, power control components and traction power equipment experience.
License/Certificate:
Registration or the ability to acquire registration as a Professional Engineer in one of the signatory jurisdictions of the WMATA compact, i.e., the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia is preferred.
Medical Group :
Ability to satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this job. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of this job either with or without reasonable accommodations.
Summary:
This is responsible professional electrical engineering work of a complex nature. Incumbent reviews and coordinates electrical designs and installations required by the Authority's rapid rail transit system. Incumbent has considerable latitude for independent judgment and action within established guidelines. Incumbent's performance will be evaluated based on the effective performance of assigned duties.

- Travel to manufacturer's facilities throughout the US.
- Working in the evening/night with no little to no advance notice.
- Reviewing design criteria, directive and standard drawings, specifications, consultant's/contractor's electrical designs and installation.
- Coordinating field surveys and assessing existing power systems to support new design and installation efforts.
- Extensive knowledge of NFPA 70, 70B, 130 and ANSI/NETA MTS.

- Reviews complex electrical drawing and design specifications related to electrical systems equipment developed by the General Engineering Consultant, ensuring technical adequacy and compliance with established standards of the Authority. Directs the General Engineering Consultant in preparation or modification of electrical plans.
- Confers with the General Engineering Consultant's electrical staff in the development of criteria, plans and specifications for guidance of stage and section designers.
- Reviews drawings, specifications and computations developed by Section Designers for electrical systems equipment such as switchgear, electrical panels, motor control centers, motors, pumps, fans, escalators, cables, energy efficient lighting, cathodic protection and heating devices.
- Reviews specifications ans shop drawings or procurement contracts, for bus garage renovation, modification or construction.
- Maintains liason with power companies to facilitate smooth and timely completion of construction projects
- Prepares accurate engineering reports on complex electrical facilities and systems,
- Performs special projects to include electrical engineering design, control circuit modification, equipment application, cost estimates, etc.,as assigned.
