Senior Lead, Software Engineer - Cyber Engineering

As a Senior Lead Software Engineer in our Cyber Engineering organization, you will play a key role in protecting Capital one's Global infrastructure from ever changing cybersecurity threats.

The Cyber Engineering team is responsible for building and deploying platforms and services used to provide Information Security capabilities here at Capital One. You will use your technical expertise and embrace new and emerging technologies to deliver robust security solutions, whilst ensuring that Information Security remains an integral part of the corporate culture at Capital One. And to do that, you'll help in analyzing, designing, developing and delivering solutions built to stop adversaries and strengthen our operations by closely partnering with Product managers, SOC analysts and Insider threat groups. You'll use your leadership skills to give guidance, best practice advice and support across all our business and technology groups. You'll keep Sr leadership, Enterprise partners and stakeholders in the loop to ensure awareness of progress, risks and issues to facilitate quick decision making.

Additionally, as a Senior Lead Software Engineer of the cyber engineering team, you will be mentoring junior engineers and helping them to grow their skills in all aspects of the software development lifecycle to deliver solid and scalable solutions. Plus you will assist as needed with technical responses to various cyber incidents impacting the organization, advise on strategic initiatives, programs, and projects to create business value in an agile manner.

What You'll Do:
  • Architect, Engineer, implement, and/or administer Host & Endpoint Security solutions in a highly available, redundant, distributed computing environment
  • Create technical documentation including SOP's and design documents related to system configurations, process, procedure, and knowledge base articles
  • Perform gap analyses of the processes supporting and technologies within the SIEM and document findings, recommended corrective actions with impact analyses
  • Support the overall cyber security engineering team in managing scope, cost, schedule, risks, SLAs, KPIs, OLAs, and deliverables while adhering to staffing and budgeting requirements
  • Drive the operational implementation of monitoring capabilities, dashboards, and improvement
  • Provide production and infrastructure support, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, health monitoring, etc
  • Be able to step in, evaluate various different technology stacks and inform teams, peers and senior leadership on the right solution
  • Write, design, code, test, implement, and debug programs adhering to corporate requirements and standards.
  • Possess experience with cloud orchestration tools and a strong understanding of Amazon Web Services cloud
  • Perform application testing and validation, programming, and documentation


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply)
  • At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • 9+ years of experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Typescript, Java, Python or Go
  • 8+ years of IT experience as an engineer, architect, or system administrator within a large scale, mission critical, enterprise environment
  • 5+ years experience with distributed data computing tools (MS-SQL, DynamoDB, knowledge of NOSQL database)
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
  • 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks
  • 1+ years of people management experience
  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting
  • Experience with Windows platform scripting (PowerShell)
  • Experience with Networking such as AWS VPC, packet analysis, flow log analysis, DNS, TCP/IP, HTTPS
  • Experience with multi-system integration using RESTful APIs or GRPC etc.
  • Experience with data pipelines with high availability and scalability

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Location is New York City: $230,100 - $262,700 for Sr. Lead Software Engineer

Location is San Francisco, California: $243,800 - $278,200 for Sr. Lead Software Engineer

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
