    • In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, a High School Diploma/GED and graduation or certification from a formal electrical trade school, plus four (4) years of experience maintaining electrical systems in a transit or industrial operating environment will be considered

  • Minimum of (4) years of experience maintaining extensive electrical systems, within a rapid transit railway system, to include a minimum of (3) years in a supervisory capacity.

  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license issued from state of residence.

Mission Essential Designation:
  • In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.


This position is responsible for effectively and efficiently assisting in managing, planning, scheduling, coordinating the maintenance, removal and replacement of equipment, and keeping all of the Authority's low voltage electrical distribution systems in a state of good repair and working order.

  • Assists in the planning, development and implementation of preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement of all low voltage electrical systems and ensure that all electrical systems are maintained to the highest operating standards and in accordance with applicable codes and maintenance standards.
  • Assists engineers with technical evaluations of new equipment. Ensure that the Authority's electrical systems provide the maximum opportunity for cost effectiveness and efficient operation.
  • Ensures contingency plans are followed in the event of an emergency and that properly trained personnel and appropriate equipment is available to restore low voltage electrical systems to normal operation.
  • Performs timely investigations into equipment failures and department incidents, determines causes and initiates appropriate for correction.
  • Presents oral and written reports to Superintendent on areas of assigned responsibility as may be appropriate.
  • Manages, supervises and evaluates assigned personnel to include applicant selections, disciplinary actions, and grievance resolutions.
  • Plans, coordinates, and reviews work assigned to staff, special projects, etc. Performs a periodic review of all work assigned, and reports status to the Office of the Superintendent.
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of all employees assigned, thru the direction and implementations of monthly, weekly, and daily safety briefings. Performs periodic safety inspections of field locations, office and work environments to ensure compliance.
  • Investigates all personal injuries and accidents, works with the Department of Safety to determine root cause, corrective action, or preventable action.
  • Assists with the implementation of strategic business plans and processes of the department, follows up with audits to ensure compliance. Reports results to Superintendent
  • Estimate staffing and material requirements, product efficiency and the need for improvement. Analyze labor and equipment report summaries.

  • Managing the daily work flow and progress of assignments given to department personnel.
  • Reviews financial purchases, such as purchase cards, service contracts, equipment contracts, material contracts, etc.
  • Assists with the coordination and training of department personnel, to include evaluations of progress and performance.
  • Completes and follow up on all personnel injury and equipment accidents and investigations.
  • Investigate all equipment failures, repairs, and new installation of equipment. Ensure proper documentation is captured in Maximo data base.
  • Attend meetings with other customers and departments to ensure adequate support is being provided demonstrating the department's commitment to customer service and improvements.
  • Assists in developing scopes of works when requested by customers of the non-electrical field.
  • Monitors equipment and assets of the department to ensure efficient operation, and consult with engineers to assist with determining the need for replacement.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures. Advises on proper work methods and techniques.
  • Establishes and maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with internal and external customers to continue to build effective relationships throughout the organization.
  • Attends discussions, complaints and grievances with employees or their representatives, resolves complaints in accordance with employee relations practices and operating requirements.
  • Attends meetings, seminars and other functional responsibilities as necessary.
