Full Time

  • You will serves as the Principle Port Engineer for assigned vessels, including those powered by steam and/or diesel and/or gas turbine, and includes responsibility for the life cycle management of those ships.
  • You will manage the ships Life Cycle Plan by reviewing, planning, and coordinating the maintenance, repair, and alteration activities requiring industrial assistance for assigned ships.
  • You will develop short-, mid-, and long-term maintenance and repair planning products for the vessels.
  • You will determine the prioritization and risk assessments of shipboard work requirements in conjunction with lifecycle plans and budgetary requirements/limitations.
  • You will conduct shipboard assessments to verify work item technical requirements, review material readiness, and determine requirements for ship alteration and modification.
  • You will serve as technical expert and point of contact for issues related to shipboard readiness, and maintenance and repair.
  • You will assist with developing and implementing command-wide policies and procedures to ensure consistent approach and execution of life cycle management and ship maintenance/repair world-wide.

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of SPECIALIZED experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
  • Experience as a SME in a wide range of shipboard main and auxiliary systems, including main propulsion systems, electrical generation and distribution systems, heating ventilation and air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems, firefighting systems, cargo systems, fuel systems, lubrication systems, communications systems, seawater systems, auxiliary boiler systems, piping systems, ships structure, coating systems, habitability, etc.. and the broad range of marine propulsion systems, including gas turbine systems, steam turbine systems, high / medium / slow speed diesel systems and diesel electric systems.
  • Experience performing advanced naval engineering and naval architecture principles and related engineering fields to serve as an SME in the areas of ship design, operation, maintenance, repair and modernization.
  • Experience providing SME knowledge of regulatory body (ABS, USCG, etc.) requirements for design, maintenance, and repair of vessels in the United States and understanding of International Maritime organization (IMO), International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution by Ships (MARPOL), and the application of Statements of Voluntary Compliance to international standards.
  • Experience applying advanced theory, concepts, principles and practices of marine and naval engineering and naval architecture enabling the incumbent to serve as an expert as well as to resolve unique or complex marine life cycle management issues pertaining to ship design, operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Experience maintaining complicated schedule driven multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience performing vessel operations and maintenance both in a commercial and military environment.
  • Experience reviewing plans, specifications, preliminary engineering reports, design drawings and specifications for ship maintenance and repair, and alteration, shipboard operating instructions, policies and guides for maintenance management and providing consultative services to other engineers or engineering contractors on the full range of ship machinery and structural systems and the technical knowledge and understanding to formally analyze the technical requirements and justify the work.
  • Experience providing advisory, consulting and reviewing services for the Command regarding status of material readiness and condition, budgets and maintenance and repair issues for assigned ship

Additional information

This position may require extensive domestic and international travel and will exceed 25%.

This position may require overtime.

This position may require shipyard and shipboard work in which the incumbent may be required to climb, crawl, and bend to accomplish shipboard inspections.
