    • Experience within the passenger transit industry or working in a training environment
    • Experience in the coordination of complex projects within a fast-paced environment

Mission Essential Designation:

In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.


The Apprenticeship / Technical Skills Program Coordinator (A/T Skills Program Coordinator) is a customer facing, professional responsible for all administrative functions relating to WMATA's Technical Skills Program (TSP) and Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) program. The incumbent performs a wide range of supporting assignments in-line with the Standard Operating procedures (SOP) of both TSP and RWP.

  • Provides daily / weekly/ monthly / annual updates to all stakeholders regarding TSP status(s) via reporting and direct communication. Ensures all records are accurate and complete. Data record keeping includes but is not limited to, attendance, work experience, related instruction, valid certifications, grades, and progress. These metrics are critical in allowing internal leadership to evaluate program success and chart future program expansion.
  • Provides daily / weekly/ monthly / annual updates to all stakeholders regarding critical aspects of RWP status(s) via reporting and direct communication. Creates, updates, tracks and verifies courses within WMATA's Electronic Learning Management (ELM) System. Ensures all RWP records are verified, filed, and stored in accordance with RWP's Standard Operations Procedure (SOP) as well as current oversight entities.
  • Ensures mission critical staff are compliant with RWP. Schedules over 5400 WMATA employees and contractors for annual RWP courses. Works closely with leadership to anticipate trends that may impact compliance and service. Proactively, solves problems when technical issue impact compliance. Serves as critical customer facing resource for all inquiries via phone, email and/or in person, regarding RWP Program. Engages daily, with RWP staff, addressing class concerns, registration, participant corrections in real time. Maintains vigilance and meticulous scrutiny to ensure the RWP program is accurate, reliable, and readily available to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that all persons accessing the roadway, in the course of their work are safe, accountable, and informed.
  • Performs thorough and equitable record keeping of apprentices/trainees academic and job performance issues and ensures these concerns are reported swiftly to the Joint Advisory Committee and handled appropriately.
  • Works with Technical Skill Training Supervisor(s) to schedule formal and on-the-job (OJT) training for apprentices/trainees and assure a well-rounded OJT experience. Closely monitors OJT assessments to ensure Apprenticeship/Technical Skills Program goals are met or exceeded.
  • Assists TSP program Leadership with the submittal and preparation of Apprenticeship Program documentation legally required by local, state, and federal agencies, or respective organizations. Tracks and notifies the DC Apprentices' Council of new registrations, terminations, cancellations, and completions of Apprenticeship Agreements within prescribed time frames.
  • Assists in development of an Annual Training Plan for various training classes and RWP. Updates and monitors training schedule in the ERP (i.e., PeopleSoft) training modules.
  • Acts as the record keeper for the Joint Advisory Committee, recording and maintaining minutes of meeting, following up and implementing administrative, organizational, and corrective actions directed by the committee.
  • Researches and develops special projects and performs other related duties as required. Supports multiple training departments within Technical Skill and Maintenance Training.
  • Works with Technical Skill Training Supervisor to prepare RWP training schedule for upcoming classes, assisting instructors with facilitation planning and keeping technical skill and maintenance training management informed of upcoming RWP training classes.
