The DOT (Department of Transportation) Enterprise Information Technology Shared Services (EITSS) supports the department's office of the chief information officer in developing and implementing an enterprise IT infrastructure and common operating environment across DOT.

The SME Microsoft System Administrator position will provide Windows engineering support and will be responsible for building, patching, and troubleshooting Windows servers in support of current and future DOT systems and applications. The SME Microsoft System Administrator will be working with a team of server engineers to troubleshoot issues for multiple systems in multiple data center locations.

Responsibilities

Work you'll do

As a SME Microsoft System Administrator within the DOT (Department of Transportation) Enterprise Information Technology Shared Services ( EITSS ) team, you will:
  • Responsible for applying new solutions through research and collaboration with team members and will be advising on the course of action for new application initiatives.
  • Responsible for resolving and completing assigned tasks and change requests and will act as an escalation for support issues.
  • Responsible for leading and managing the administrative team for the Windows server infrastructure.
  • Provide support, implementation, and design services for Windows-based systems across the enterprise.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to Active Directory and SQL Server activities.
  • Plans and manages workloads, projects, and other administrative tasks associated with the Windows Server team.
  • Provides subject matter expertise in troubleshooting all issues related to the Windows server infrastructure.
  • Enterprise-level support for Active Directory for global initiatives following those through to implementation via collaboration with project and support teams.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate, extend and enhance service delivery everywhere possible.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis and Problem Management for the directory services environment.
  • Serves as an escalation point for application support and troubleshooting and provides guidance and direction in the resolution of escalated issues and/or complex production, application, or system problems.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Active Directory and third-party software utilities for hardware systems within company operational guidelines.
  • Create and maintain system documentation for domain technologies, including installation, configuration, and appropriate troubleshooting steps.
  • Improve existing processes through solutions to recurring problems and enhancements to existing solutions or documentation.
  • Provide training as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of experience administrating and managing servers and systems, cloud infrastructure, file, and print environments, specializing in Windows operating systems.
  • Must have experience leading technical teams supporting system operations.
  • Must possess a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) - Server Infrastructure or equivalent.
  • Background check and the ability to obtain a Public Trust

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently and yet be effective within a team setting.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and SQL Server.
  • Must be capable of managing multiple efforts with time-related constraints in a fast-paced contracting environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals
  • Friendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, and experience working in a home office setting as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone, good phone skills, professional demeanor, and previous customer service experience strongly desired.
  • Good problem-solving skills: the ability to visualize a problem/situation and think abstractly to solve it.
