Operates commercial vehicles and light motorized equipment in a variety of solid waste activities. Assures compliance to all applicable Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Department of Transportation (DOT) laws and regulations. Reports for duty promptly in proper uniform and physical condition and be ready to work any assigned task. Follows instructions from supervisory personnel and communicate any problems to a supervisor. Completes daily vehicle pre/post trip inspections. Assures cleanliness of vehicles. Prepares and complete all required logs and reports including reports on traffic incidents. Utilizes the communication systems (cell phones, radios, etc.) in accordance with county policies. Operates a two-way radio system in accordance with the regulations of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). Working knowledge of completing electronic forms. Leads work crews engaged in a variety of solid waste activities. Maintains good customer/employee/supervisor relations. Provides information to customers in a helpful, courteous, efficient manner. Ensures a safe work environment for county staff and complex customers. Engages in safe working practices and complies with the Solid Waste Management Program safety programs and guidelines. Complies with the DPWES Safety Competencies. Maintains the standards of the county, including but not limited to the drug & alcohol, safety, and personnel policies and procedures. Adhere to the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) guiding principles. Maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Perform other duties as assigned.
Note: Holiday, weekend and overtime work may be required. Position is designated as "essential emergency services personnel".

*A $2,500 signing bonus is available to new county employees hired in the Motor Equipment Operator position. Applicants must possess a valid CDL at time of application submission to be eligible.
Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; and two years of experience in the operation of medium/light motorized equipment.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, alcohol/drug test, driving record check, and commercial driver's license screening to the satisfaction of the employer.
Required to report to work during extreme inclement weather or other emergencies, including after-hours and weekend work during emergency incidents to fulfill emergency service duties.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience operating Solid Waste equipment. One year of experience operating construction-type equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, bend, crouch, stoop, reach, and lift and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for lengthy periods of time. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance and 25 to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Manual strength and dexterity required to manage equipment and materials. Ability to perform strenuous activities and repetitive motions. Ability to hear, see and speak and work in an area where large moving vehicles/equipment are in motion. Ability to effectively communicate, both written and orally, and utilize communications equipment. Ability to effectively use on-line training tools and communication mediums. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and temperatures. Ability to work around and be exposed to Household Hazardous Waste (HHW). Ability to operate light, medium and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Panel interview and may include exercise.
