Laurel Hill Golf Club is searching for an Assistant Superintendent that is highly motivated and has goals and aspirations of becoming a Golf Course Superintendent in the future. We are looking for an individual that is a strong communicator/listener that will help drive our maintenance team in providing championship course conditioning day in and day out. Our team needs someone that is not afraid to ask questions and interject when they have an opportunity to help improve operations. At Laurel Hill, we understand that it is our responsibility to train, elevate, and promote all team members with the end goal of moving them on to bigger and better opportunities. Works hand in hand with the Golf Course Superintendent planning and executing crew scheduling and management. Applies plant protectants, pesticides, hand watering, surveying irrigation needs, record keeping, project management, team training and performs many other various tasks that are pertinent to delivering high level golf course conditioning.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”)
Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with an associate degree in recreation, park management, therapeutic recreation, or a closely related field; plus two years of related experience in recreation center, park, athletic field, golf course operations, or community-based program coordination or a related field, as applicable to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a management role
  • Desire to come to a property to make an impact, take pride in your work, and the work of the team
  • Must have a strong attention to details to enhance the quality of the golf course and to hold the team to the same standards
  • Desire to grow as a turf grass manager in order to advance in their career towards being a superintendent.
  • Ability to lead the team in the absence of the superintendent
  • Familiar with Rain Bird Irrigation
  • Ability to train team members in all aspects on the golf course

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Driver's license (required)
  • Certified Fertilizer Applicator License (required)
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License (required within 3 months)
  • Registered Technician Certification (1 year of experience)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, child protective services registry check, and driver's record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to wear respiratory and other safety equipment. Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to climb on and off various types of golf course equipment. Ability to use hand and food controls for extended periods of time. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview and may include exercise.
