Duties

  • You will perform repair, replacement, and overhaul of powered support systems components to maintain continuous operations of equipment.
  • You will adjust power production components to maintain electric power distribution and meet electrical load demand.
  • You will use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to determine method of repair for powered support systems or components.
  • You will use testing equipment to troubleshoot system malfunctions.
  • You will troubleshoot electrical power support systems (e.g., electrical power plants, power distribution equipment) to determine the type of repair or maintenance needed.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Installing, inspecting, and performing modifications and repairs to electrical power support systems such as, electrical power plants and power distribution equipment; 2) Maintaining, operating and adjusting power production components to ensure efficient electric power control and distribution and to meet electrical load demand; 3) Utilizing technical manuals, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to determine replacement parts required for powered support system or components; 4) Troubleshooting by use of a wide range of testing and repair equipment for system malfunction.

A forty-hour work week is typical of the position. The employee may be required to work overtime.

The employee may be required to work in shifts.The employee may be required to work on-call on an emergency basis.

This position may be job sited. The employee may be required to report for work at a location other than a permanently assigned location.

Physical Effort: Work involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing and arm movement. May work in awkward positions or cramped areas. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to about 40 pounds and may lift heavier items with the help of jacks, hoists, or other workers.

Working Conditions: Work may be performed inside or outside. Inside, may be exposed to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside, may work in bad weather, in rain or snow, or in wet or icy areas. Both inside and outside, the mechanic may be exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces.

Works on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment, and may be reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the mechanic follows safety procedures and wears protective equipment such as, protective eye wear, ear devices, hard hats, hard toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing.
