Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire a Surgical Assistant who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.
As a Cardiac Surgical Assistant, you will:
• Assist the surgeon in the performance of any surgical procedure, working under the surgeon's direct supervision
• Act as first or second assistant to the surgeon, have extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, scrub for operative procedures, assist in moving and positioning patients for surgery, assist the surgeon in draping of the patient retract tissue and exposes operating field area during operative procedures, clamp and ties blood vessels to control bleeding during surgical entry, keep the operative site dry, afford the surgeon the best possible exposure of the anatomy incident to the operation, assist the surgeon in identifying any structure that should not be ligated and keep those structures from the operative site by retraction
• Be prepared to anticipate the moves of the surgeon, knowledgeable in all surgical procedures sufficient to assist the surgeon in any way, know all of the instruments used in any procedure, and assist in closure of the incision, including tying of bleeders and applying sutures and wound dressings
• Keep abreast of new developments in surgery by attending seminars, workshops and other educational activities.
Qualified candidates will possess:
• Graduate of an approved and accredited surgical assistant program
• National Certification
• 5-7 years of experience as a surgical assistant
• Active CPR Certification with the American Heart Association
• Must meet appropriate performance and proficiency training protocol approved by the Chief of the Department of Cardiac Surgery
• Strong communication skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Diplomacy skills when interacting with patients, families, physicians, and others disciplines
• Demonstrate evidence of team work and team building
Work Schedule:
5x8 hour shifts, with on call requirement
