Traffic Service Worker
A Traffic Service Worker II performs skilled work in the fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic signs, markings and parking meters. An employee in this class participates in the silk screening process of sign fabrication in the traffic shop and/or is responsible for rebuilding and modifying parking meters for new time and/or coin denomination requirements, and/or the installation and repair of traffic signs and pavement markings. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Transportation Superintendent, with additional guidance and assistance available from a Traffic Service Worker III.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
Minimum: High School Diploma or GED; one year of experience at the Traffic Service Worker I level; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Employees must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of their residence.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred: Two-Year College Degree; one year of computer experience; knowledge of sign fabrication and work orders; Flagging and Work Cone certifications.

Examples of work include:
- Collect revenue from City parking meters, exchanges monies at bank into bags;
- Installs single stand up meters by using concrete drill to install post, repair and replace mechanical parts;
- Troubleshoots multi-space meters, and collects coin boxes;
- Changes the batteries in machines, also troubleshoots electronic meters, using wireless handhelds;
- Installs and removes paper temporary signs as assigned;
- Installs traffic counters to estimate the traffic flow, also installation of traffic flow cameras for counts;
- Installs and maintains traffic signs, marking and striping;
- Fills out work orders after completion of jobs;
- Marks pavement, installs stop bars using 3m tape, marks parking lots, and streets, uses torch to install street symbols, puts in walkways, uses paint trucks, thermo plastic street markers, and paint striping machines, and fabricates signs, and signal work as needed;
- Performs related work as required.
Good knowledge of the practices, methods, tools and materials used in installing, maintaining, repairing, fabricating and rebuilding traffic signs, markings and parking meters; some knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to the fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic signs, markings and parking meters; some knowledge of the geography of the City, or the ability to readily acquire such knowledge; skill in the use of tools and equipment used in fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic signs, markings and parking meters; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to perform the job tasks sometimes under adverse weather conditions; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
