Dewberry is seeking an experienced professional as a Assistant Resource Team Lead for our Fairfax, VA office. This position will provide oversight and technical lead support to our existing Risk MAP Program Delivery team. The candidate should have 5+ years of professional experience with GIS, geospatial analytics, data science and application development activities including task managing technical staff. This position will support a wide array of projects at the national, regional, and local scales. Candidates will possess proven technical and leadership capabilities to assess business needs, develop solutions, detail work processes, test outputs against the business requirements. Responsibilities

The managerial responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the Resource Team Lead in recruiting, training, and building a strong team of technical professionals in developing innovative geospatial analytical products.
  • Providing day-to day technical support and guidance, direction, and oversight of project delivery.
  • Coordinating with the project team, Resource Team Leads, Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Task Managers to develop project execution plan details, proactively develop solutions and creative methods to achieve results.
  • Acting as a Task Manager to lead assigned project activities as delegated from Project Manager
  • Supporting Resource Team Lead as needed in conducting administrative duties such as workload coordination, staff resourcing, providing input on performance assessments, and other similar duties.

The technical responsibilities include:
  • Providing oversight on FEMA Risk Map production.
  • Preparing and maintaining internal and external project documentation.
  • Developing flood risk products and performing flood risk assessments.
  • Perform geospatial analysis.
  • Checking for graphical and technical accuracy of deliverables and reports.
  • Creation of non-standard maps, graphics, exhibits, and other visualizations from project outputs, to assist with project outreach and communication activities.
  • Coordinating with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities, and other contractors to compile all data necessary to produce the most up-to-date product.
  • Coaching, and/or mentoring junior staff.


Required Skills & Required Experience

Required Skills:

Must have experience that demonstrates ability to lead and supervise a team of professionals. Must also possess strong background in the application of geospatial analyses utilizing GIS and skills to execute efficient solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Earth and Environmental Science, or other related fields.
  • Experience in geospatial processing and GIS software packages such as ArcGIS and other ESRI products.
  • 5+ years of professional work experience in GIS or FIRM production.
  • Knowledge of the NFIP, FEMA Risk MAP Studies, MT-2, and/or other flood study related programs and processes.
  • Knowledge of FEMA Guidelines and Standards for Flood Risk Analysis and Mapping.
  • Strong oral, people, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance, U.S. Citizenship preferred due to contract requirements.

Desired Skills:
  • Intermediate proficiency in python modeling/scripting and model builder for ArcGIS.
  • Intermediate experience with FEMA's HAZUS application for multi-hazard risk analysis.
  • Knowledge of FEMA's Mapping Information Platform tracking and reporting system.
  • Knowledge of Flood Mitigation and other Grant Programs
  • Knowledge of Environmental Regulations
  • Knowledge of Watershed Planning
  • Certified Floodplain Manager
