Duties

  • You will perform regular and preventative maintenance on small craft.
  • You will operate twin and single screw craft approximately 40 feet in length along with associated equipment onboard.
  • You will conduct pre-operation checks to meet safety regulations.
  • You will operate portable pumps, portable generators and light plants, in support of recovery and/or spill operations.
  • You will use various tools in mechanical repair.

  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a 2nd class swimmer qualification or obtain and maintain the current USCG approved Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers Basic Safety Training equivalent within 6 months of reporting.
  • The incumbent must complete the SIM BBC course, which can be obtained within 1 year of reporting or possess or obtain USCG Six Pack license.
  • Incumbent shall respond to radiological emergencies and perform radiological emergency drills.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card to make official government purchases for goods and services.


Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of a Small Craft Operator without more than normal supervision; Operating and navigating a small craft through traffic; maintaining the craft using a prescribed maintenance plan; performing routine maintenance around the craft, and providing assistance to the Ship's Pilots, Dock master, and Pier master in the moving, docking, and undocking of waterborne craft and ships.

The incumbent will be subject to working odd or rotating shifts and weekend.

Certain incentives (such as Recruitment/ Relocation) may be authorized to eligible selectees.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Physical Effort: required to lift, carry, or pull up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb vertical ladders, stairs, and endure prolonged standing, kneeling, bending, pulling, reaching, and have good hand/ finger dexterity.

Working Condition: Work is performed predominantly outside and aboard small craft or other waterborne craft in
extreme weather conditions and sea states.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
