Duties

  • Utilizes evidence based practices, and culturally sensitive models to develop care plans. Incumbent will utilize the theories and therapeutic modalities, evidenced based practices and culturally sensitive models to develop plans with individual/family/group and other special populations such as the physically/mentally challenged and blended families.
  • Provide short-term follow up , possible long term counseling and case management for patients and families via telehealth.
  • Utilizes established standards in assessment, safety planning, treatment, and follow up. The incumbent uses the SOAP format, and documents treatment plans. Documentation will follow the required standards of behavioral health policies and entities such as Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation on Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Incumbent utilizes Electronic Health Record to document.
  • Provides independent professional decisions and recommendations for patient's continuity in care by providing structured placements for acute and chronic patients in psychiatric facilities, transitional residency, group and/or other secure units

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

On-call hours or standby duty may be required.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate:

GS-11: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: ensuring a streamlined, effective and accountable utilization of resource throughout the area served; identifying trends and problems and resolving problems between programs and administration; consulting with Tribal Governments in formulating, planning and executing of the fiscal budget for an Area Office or Regional Office; working directly with or managing programs for families, addictions, suicide prevention and awareness, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders diagnostic issues, concurring mental health and substance abuse issues; supervising, planning, directing, and evaluating overall activities in a department.

Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, unrestricted U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW). Please provide a copy of your license with your application.

Selective Placement Factor: The positions requires an unrestricted substance abuse license (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC); Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor (ACADC), Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or any other substance abuse license from a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the US or District of Columbia.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Additional information

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.

This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
