Equipment Operator II
(Resource Recover Division)
An Overview
An Equipment Operator II operates one or more types of heavy automotive equipment. An employee in this class exercises considerable skill in manipulating heavy motor equipment while paying constant attention to safety of operation in order to prevent accidents. Assignments are outlined in detail by supervisors. Standard procedures are followed and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation. This class differs from that of Equipment Operator I in that it requires a higher degree of skill and greater consequence of error in the form of damage to more expensive equipment. An incumbent in this class leads the work of Laborers and Refuse Collectors.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
To quality for this position all candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the require knowledge, skills and abilities; at least two (2) years of experience driving related equipment in the field of Solid Waste; ability to demonstrate supervisory skills; must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the state of residence with all applicable endorsements; thorough knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations; must be able to read and comprehend technical materials and evaluate work orders; must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, and the physical ability to perform job tasks under all types of weather conditions.
Notes
**Your work schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the business. Resource Recovery is a 7 day/week work group. Your scheduled hours require working on Saturday, Sunday and or both. Our typical hours of operation are 6:30 am - 3:00 pm, October through April (Winter) and 5:30 am - 2:00 pm, May through September (Summer).**

The Opportunity - Examples of Work
- Operates a refuse collection truck and other light and heavy motor equipment; Fills out and turns in daily reports;
- Ensures that safety rules, including proper attire and backing processes are followed;
- Inspects vehicles and performs safety checks daily;
- Occasionally operates truck engaging in sanding icy streets and snow removal;
- Assists in special projects when needed and in various civic associations and community events;
- Responds to citizen inquires and complaints regarding City refuse and recycling services; *Assists in keeping all equipment clean, reports and malfunctions of equipment to the repair shop;
- Performs other duties as required.
