Lab ManagerThe GMU Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time Lab Manager to work 40 hours per week on a National Institutes of Health-funded study.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The study is of an intervention to reduce stress, improve parenting, and prevent risk behaviors and psychopathology in adolescents. The study involves multiple measures of parent and adolescent stress and emotion, including self-report, cortisol reactivity, and emotion-related fMRI responses. The anticipated start date for this position is July 2023.For the study, parents and adolescents complete questionnaire, interview, and biological assessments of stress, emotion, psychological symptoms, and substance use and a laboratory task of emotional and physiological responses to parent-adolescent interactions. Half of the parents will also complete an fMRI session. Parents will be randomly assigned to a mindful parenting intervention or a parent education intervention for 8 weeks. Following the intervention, the families will return to the lab for questionnaires, interviews, and lab/MRI measures at post-intervention and will return for questionnaires and interviews at 6 month and 1 and 2 year follow-ups. Responsibilities:Scheduling study sessions and tracking study families through the study sessions and follow-ups;Conducting study sessions with parents and adolescents, including collecting questionnaire, interview, physiological, and biological data on parents' and adolescents' emotional functioning and substance use;Assisting with set up of the intervention sessions;Data entry and database organization; andTraining and scheduling of undergraduate research assistants.Study sessions and intervention sessions are typically held in the late afternoon and on weekends, so this position would need to be available to work from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on four weekdays and must be able to work one weekend afternoon per week.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred Qualifications:Prefer bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field;Prefer previous experience as a research assistant on a human research study; andPrefer previous experience working with parents, children, and/or adolescents.
