Mason Square Library ManagerThe George Mason University Libraries seek to fill the position of the Mason Square Library Manager. About the Department:The mission of the Mason Square Library (MSL), as part of the University Libraries, is to support the research, education and life-long needs of the campus's faculty, staff, students, and community patrons using collections, technology, facilities, and staff expertise.About the Position:This position has an essential leadership role in the Mason Square Library. In working with the Head of the Library, this position ensures appropriate goals are set and met in relation to facilities management, collaboration with campus and intercampus administrative and support units, and staff supervision.Responsibilities:Coordinate and manage all access services in the Mason Square Library including circulation, stacks, serials, document delivery, course reserves, and basic computing;Supervise and evaluate access services classified and student wages staff;Collaborate with other access services personnel at other University Libraries sites to ensure consistency in the implementation of circulation and access services policies;Serve as the primary contact for the library for facilities, campus police, and campus administration in carrying out daily business operations; andOversees day to day operations (general administrative activities, facilities issues, computer stations, supplies and equipment, desk and staff schedules, statistics and reports, circulation/access services).Required Qualifications:The following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities are required:Bachelor's degree required or significant equivalent library experience (typically 3+ years);Substantial knowledge of library public services experiences, particularly circulation services;Proficiency with relevant, current computer software and support on various computer operation systems (e.g. Windows, MS Office suite, etc.);Proficiency with current library systems and research resources;Project, service, and/or program management experience;Successful experience supervising, training, and mentoring other staff members and/or student employees;Basic working knowledge of bookkeeping;Advanced organizational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment;Analytical and problem-solving skills, initiative, follow-through, and attention to detail;Interpersonal skills and communication skills (written and oral) for providing service in a diverse academic environment;Demonstrate well-developed service orientation and understanding of functional work and its impact on other library units as well as the user community;Ability to work both independently with minimal supervisor and as part of a team in a fast-paced production- and service-oriented environment;Ability to act with tact and diplomacy, negotiate fairly and rationally, and exercise good judgement under time, pressure, and/or in potentially challenging situations; andAbility to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis.Preferred Qualifications:The following education and/or skill sets are preferred:Academic library experience, preferably in circulation.The George Mason University library system, comprised of a large central library and three other distinctive libraries, is located on three campuses in the Northern Virginia-metropolitan Washington, D.C., region.
