Online Learning Assistant The George Mason University Libraries is seeking qualified candidates for an Online Learning Assistant opportunity. The Teaching and Learning Team of the University Libraries focuses on the information literacy needs of Mason's diverse undergraduate community. With an emphasis on serving students throughout the Mason Core curriculum, the Teaching and Learning Team creates dynamic and engaging learning experiences, which promote critical thinking and enhance George Mason University's teaching mission for creating a more just world. Through course-based instruction, on-demand workshops, and campus and community outreach, informed by iterative student learning assessment, the Teaching and Learning Team empowers undergraduates to succeed as students and community members. The incumbent operates independently within a general outline of work to be performed under minimal supervision from the Online Learning Coordinator and Instruction Librarian. This position works effectively and courteously with diverse populations and various educational levels.The incumbent supports online education by providing services to faculty with online teaching responsibilities and to students enrolled in online courses. This includes teaching information literacy classes to lower-level undergraduate students; creating and modifying online learning modules in Blackboard; creating and revising online learning tutorials and providing administrative support to tutorial workflow procedures; and managing the Libraries' YouTube channel. This position also has a number of administrative responsibilities such as monitoring emails related to online learning; monitoring and maintaining content for the Libraries' web pages and online instructional materials; and LibCal administration for virtual reference.This position may work a combination of days, nights, and weekends, depending upon the time of the semester.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience;Demonstrated proficiency with computer hardware, course management software, web authoring tools, and multimedia creation tools;Demonstrated ability to create learning objects using media authoring and management tools (e.g., Kaltura, CaptureSpace, Photoshop, and Premier Pro);Excellent oral, listening and written communication skills;Demonstrated technology skills including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;Problem-solving skills, initiative, follow-through, attention to detail;Organizes and manages multiple tasks effectively and efficiently;Strong customer service skills; demonstrated success in working with the public;Ability to work independently, identify and modify work priorities as needed or directed;Ability to work effectively and courteously with diverse populations and varying educational levels;Creativity; motivation; takes initiative and proposes solutions; andAbility to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.Preferred Qualifications:Library public services, particularly reference, instruction and user services programs. Academic library reference and instruction/training experience;Experience using Blackboard as an instructor or course builder;Proficiency with information and research sources (print, electronic), automated library systems, online library catalogs, electronic databases, Internet;Experience with assessment, especially student learning assessment; andFamiliarity with online learning environments.
